[Monty isn't a complete stranger to being one place and then suddenly being another. This typically has some element of delusion or other magic involved, though. Suddenly finding himself aboard a random ship in the fleet is disconcerting. But Renart's given him a basic rundown of what's going on, and he's glanced through this latest communications network. There's far too much to take in. But there is one matter he's been wondering about.]

To All Souls Present,

My name is Lord Montague D'Ysquith Navarro, most recently of the Fortress Between. I should extend my apologies if this is a query that has been answered before, but is there, perhaps, a list of persons who once were held within the confines of this fleet who have since departed? And is it known where these disappeared persons might go?

ACTION - SS Heron

[Monty's not entirely sure how much he should go just wandering about a strange ship when he's just arrived, really. He probably ought to introduce himself to the captain, find out if there's some place for him to actually sleep, where the food Renart mentioned might be... But, well, a man does get distracted. Specifically, he's been distracted by the Med/Science Lab. Everything in it should, by rights, be absolutely foreign, but his hands seem to know what they're doing when he picks up devices, and he knows what the different medicines he finds are and what they do.

It's unnerving, disturbing, whatever had he done to be so deserving of such an augment? And how in god's name is this possible? He's really trying to take it in stride, but he's back to being a no one, stranded away from all the people he's known for more than a year, except Renart, whom he hasn't even found, yet.

Anyone stepping into the medical lab will find a young gentleman dressed to the nines in a suit from a bygone era, moving around and trying desperately to keep himself distracted from... everything by mucking about with the equipment.]

I do not mean to say that should be the only thing, my lady, but it is important. In the year and a half that I have been away from my home, there are few things I've been able to keep that were wholly mine from my own time and place. Manners are one such thing, 'overrated' though they might be.

I find myself now aboard the SS Heron, much to the relief of the one person here that I do know. Renart is someone very dear to me, if you've chanced to make her acquaintance.

[she gets maybe two sentences into a response before she says forget it and opens the video feed instead]

No offense, sir, but I am not acquainted with typing this much and it is rather annoying, so I hope you do not mind speaking like this instead.

I spent nearly a year away myself, though I imagine our circumstances were quite different. I'm afraid I left my manners behind long ago, so we will have to agree to disagree.

[she quirks something of a smile] I have not met your friend, but there are two dear friends of mine on the Heron as well; Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Charles, at the very least, may have some of the information you seek.

[Monty isn't either, but he is determined. The video and audio is also just strange, but he'll acquiesce for the view of a fine-looking woman.]

Not at all, my Lady. [His smile is polite and his accent is every bit as posh as his writing. Mother had ensured he could speak like the upper crust.]

I have had chance to meet the pair of them after arriving aboard the Heron. They are both fine gentlemen. Mr. Xavier's agreed to let me assist him with some experiments; though, we're still working out the finer details. I did not think to ask him about this, but I shall. Thank you.

[one day, she might let someone get away with calling her that. Today is not that day]

You have my thanks. But I am no lady. Just Tempest is fine. [ladies, to her, were more proper and polite, who wore dresses and actually deserved the polite title]

Oh good, you've met them already. [there's very obvious fondness in her tone] I do hope you keep him preoccupied, he could likely use another science-minded sort to talk to.

[One day, he will be the one who gets away with it. Mark him. Monty inclines his head to her request for informality, resolving that she'll be 'miss' a great deal more often than not in the remainder of their discussion.]

I am a man for numbers. Science is something relatively new to me, but I shall do my very best! I take it you are not a scientist, yourself?

[oh Monty, you're in for a losing battle]

Quite the contrary - I am one for magic. [she lifts her free hand to wiggle her fingers for emphasis] Science and I do not get on much.

[Monty's eyes light up for a moment with no small amount of interest. There's no magic in his world. Every scrap of it he's seen from others has been an absolute delight. Well... when it's not directed against him.]

Really? May I ask what sorts of magic, miss? I do enjoy learning about it - in all its many forms.

[that isn't a new reaction per say, but it's certainly a new one coming from someone who just claimed to be a man of numbers, or science]

Offensive and nature-based. My main source is drawn from it, so my spells are - elemental? I think is the term I've heard used the most. I am something of a healer as well, but that does not get used very often.

[He's dating a Fairy Tale and regularly breaks out into song and dance with phantom instrument accompaniment. He has a connection to magic...]

How wonderful. Do you ever give demonstrations, perhaps? I should be very interested. I have some small abilities, myself, but nothing I was born with.

If you would like? I certainly would not mind. [she can be a bit of a show-off, if only because she delights in watching people's reactions] Everyone in my world is born with magic, save for a very few, but it is not something commonly used. Wizards and mages like myself are a rare breed.

What sort of abilities do you have? [she tilts her head, eyebrows furrowed] You were not born with them, then - were they given to you?

I should be ever grateful, miss! [And he sounds entirely enthusiastic about it.]

My abilities were not asked for, nor do I know whence they came - though I do have my theories. They center on belief. If I can make myself believe something exists, it will be so... to an extent. They are not limitless, of course. Everyone without native magics of their own were granted such an ability in the reality I knew before this one.

Goodness. [that's . . . certainly a power, even with limitations] What sort of world were you in before this one, if I may ask?

A wasteland world we were told was the last remaining vestige of reality. Some cataclysm ten years prior to our arrival was to have destroyed every other reality and our lives for the past decade were mere delusions fabricated by a race of people called the Hedonists.

They have abilities far beyond my own, but our powers do mimic theirs.

[huh. He already had her attention, but she leans forward a bit, intrigued]

The world I was in was similar - our worlds had been destroyed, as well as our souls, and we were meant to rebuild both. But since our souls were shattered, we were without memories.

[Monty's brows jump up.]

Without your memories? Oh, dear. We've suffered the occasional effect... there was a fog within our fortress where people dare not tread. It stole the senses, whispered, and people who walked out of it were not always the people who walked in. Their memories did typically return. I take it there's been some restoration of your own?

There was no fog where I was, but things like that could happen. Effects that would twist a person in some manner, until it wore off. [she nods] My memories were restored and I was sent home for a time.

It would seem the wider worlds call to you. That's an unfortunate fate, but I am glad you've full possession of your memories now. They are precious things, more precious than most things, we came to find in our time in Between.

Is there a place we could meet, though? I'd be happy to demonstrate my own abilities for you; though, I fear they're not terribly dramatic.

That they are, but I am glad as well. As long as the important memories are intact -

[she tilts her head, thoughtful, before she nods] I could come to your ship, or I am on the Golden, should you wish to see another. I would like to see your power in person.

I should be delighted to see another; though, I fear I'm uncertain how to get over to your ship. Is it theses... theses shuttles we have? [Monty's brow furrows as the alien information is drawn up to the forefront of his mind. He really doesn't like these augments.]

Yes, it is through using those. [she's smiling, but there's distaste in her voice. She hates those metal death traps] Why don't I come to you, then? Since you are not familiar with them just yet.

If it's trouble to come, I'm happy to come to you, miss. I have been informed by my crewmates that they'll be visiting the Iskaulit in the next day or so. Perhaps we might meet there if it would be a more convenient journey? It is someone cramped aboard our ship, as well. I should like a woman of your caliber to have what room you need to fully display your abilities.

["woman of your caliber" Monty you have no idea what you're getting into. She smiles, though, nodding her agreement]

All of the ships seem to feel as though they would be cramped, so the Iskaulit may be better suited, yes. I would be happy to meet you there.

I shall look forward to the occasion with great anticipation, miss. Thank you for your kindness and attention.

Of course, sir. I shall see you soon.
