[Monty isn't a complete stranger to being one place and then suddenly being another. This typically has some element of delusion or other magic involved, though. Suddenly finding himself aboard a random ship in the fleet is disconcerting. But Renart's given him a basic rundown of what's going on, and he's glanced through this latest communications network. There's far too much to take in. But there is one matter he's been wondering about.]

To All Souls Present,

My name is Lord Montague D'Ysquith Navarro, most recently of the Fortress Between. I should extend my apologies if this is a query that has been answered before, but is there, perhaps, a list of persons who once were held within the confines of this fleet who have since departed? And is it known where these disappeared persons might go?

ACTION - SS Heron

[Monty's not entirely sure how much he should go just wandering about a strange ship when he's just arrived, really. He probably ought to introduce himself to the captain, find out if there's some place for him to actually sleep, where the food Renart mentioned might be... But, well, a man does get distracted. Specifically, he's been distracted by the Med/Science Lab. Everything in it should, by rights, be absolutely foreign, but his hands seem to know what they're doing when he picks up devices, and he knows what the different medicines he finds are and what they do.

It's unnerving, disturbing, whatever had he done to be so deserving of such an augment? And how in god's name is this possible? He's really trying to take it in stride, but he's back to being a no one, stranded away from all the people he's known for more than a year, except Renart, whom he hasn't even found, yet.

Anyone stepping into the medical lab will find a young gentleman dressed to the nines in a suit from a bygone era, moving around and trying desperately to keep himself distracted from... everything by mucking about with the equipment.]

That does sound most unpleasant, and not terribly conducive to any sort of entertainment. [Except for sadists.] Do the Atroma ever explain why the ships visit a particular planet area?

I don't think they've ever explained anything actually. Usually it's everyone else here that tells me stuff.

[That doesn't surprise Monty in the least.]

Surely a vampire of any appreciable age should have a great deal of experience observing the world and offering insight?

Aw, I'm not that old... [ Only yes he is, and he found that out recently. Sascha is also 100% not interested at all in acknowledging that. ]

There's actually a lot I don't know? I mean, I think I'm from a time really far behind everyone else.

What time would that be, sir? I daresay it must be farther on than my own if you're speaking of countries that don't exist in my time.

Well, I couldn't read back home and I couldn't talk to humans so... I'm not really sure. [ He may have initially been raised by humans and mistakenly thought he was one, but once that cleared up and the world turned on him Sascha more or less spent all his time alone watching from the outside. ]

It's nineteen-something though!

You couldn't read? [That's a bit surprising. All of the vampire lore Monty knows about has them as posh and well-educated.] Do you mean you weren't given materials or your were illiterate? I hail from 1909.

[pneumo]

[ Most vampires also don't wake up alone in the middle of a forest with no memories covered in blood, only to be subsequently adopted by humans. And later turned on by them because you are Not Actually Human Like You Thought. ]

Both? Because humans can tell what I am they pretty much hate me as soon as they see my eyes.

I can understand why they might fear you, but hate you? Really? Are your eyes hideous or repulsive to look at?

[pneumo]

I don't think so...? But that's sort of how humans can tell what we are. And anytime they see a vampire they try to kill them 'cause we drink their blood I guess.

[You guess.]

That is a somewhat horrifying prospect for those unaccustomed to it, no doubt. If you're not required to kill for your food, though, surely that would endear you to some humans. It's a terrible plight to be hated for a diet you can't help.

[pneumo]

I've never met a human that liked us... At least until I came here, anyway. [ That was a big culture shock of sorts. He went from hated constantly to be nearly completely accepted. It was almost too good to be true. ]

How many humans had to met before coming here? Many? Or only a select few. People in small groups can be small-minded about particular issues.

Um...well, I met a whole village once when they set me on fire... [ Does that count? That has to count, right? ]

[There's a long silence on Monty's end.]

Dear god. You're... well, you're alive, but are you still injured from that? My sincere apologies for such a terrible thing, sir.

[pneumo]

[ That is about the appropriate response. The silence, that is. The sympathy Sascha has no idea what to do with since that's not most peoples' first reaction to him and his past. ]

Oh...um, nope! I'm okay. It only hurt when I was on fire--when it stopped I got better.

Ah. [He recalls Renart mentioning people had tried to burn her before.] That's, um... good, then. Well, it's been rather interesting, I must say, sir. Perhaps I'll see you aboard the Iskaulit sometime? Or if you've cause to come visit the Heron.
