Um, Hello fleet residents!

It's Lily and I was wondering if the other residents who come from worlds or times with magic wanted to more or less get together and discuss things. I suppose it's a bit corny but I was in school for it before I came here and the longer I'm here the more I miss being around other witches and wizards.

So if you use magic, or I suppose if you want to try to learn some. Maybe we can set up a meeting.

I always got the impression that magic was a 'got it or you don't' kind of deal.

Well, yes. But I have heard magic doesn't always work the same for every world. Where I come from you generally know because odd things happen at your will from childhood. But it could be different and that's something I would like to help people with.

I was actually talking about making that kind of a meeting just a few days ago. I think it would be worthwhile, especially if we can start to learn each other's systems of magic.

We discussed this before I think, but it never, pardon the pun, materialized. When do you think would be best? Are there duty days lighter than others? Here it seems pretty steady.

Honestly, I'm moving ships, so I'm free for a while. I don't think there's anything really pressing here that anyone's duty can't be put off for a day or two for these meeting. Especially while we're between stops.

I don't believe I do, but I am open to meeting any new friends.

Belthazar's a kid on the Bishop. He's got some impressive magic. I only met Eithan recently, but he uses fire, and we had a nice talk about that. We only met in the hospital, so I'm not sure what ship he's on...

Fire magic? Oh, I've never tried much with that. Aside from stoking a fire in a hearth. It might be good to learn and even better to understand the control of it.

Fire is my strongest element, but it's a little bit... It doesn't have any applications outside of combat. At all. If you'd like to, I can try to help you with it, though.

I would, very much. I don't have a lot of experience with it but learning new things is always for the best!

It is, but we'll need to be careful. Fire is an element used to do a lot of harm, very quickly, after all. Doing it on a planet would be best.

I understand, especially as you say in such a environment as the ship. Some others have offered spaces for more general practice. We can do with that until we have a safe space to practice more.

That's true.... If you're looking for a good element to practice inside until then, wind is always a really useful one.

What can you do with wind? Aside from making a nice breeze?

In things like dungeon runs? Grab items, flip switches or push buttons from a distance, or cause distractions. More mundane uses? Carrying things, getting stuff from across the rooms or that's out of reach. It's like an extra hand.

Hell, I'm using it to hold the communicator up right now.

I used to use magic. I don't know if I still can—the circumstances of it were... unusual.

[ Honestly she has no idea if she'd even want to learn it again if she could, but the topic's been on her mind for a while. ]

Well, if you'd just like to be around others who do that's fine too. Or jsut learn, you don't need to practice if you don't want to.

Hm. [ She's silent for a moment. ] I might like to watch, at first. Just to see. How do you practice? What sorts of magic do you do?

Well, for me I use my wand and speak. I haven't fully mastered wandless or wordless magic yet. But I am working on it! A friend from back home had me started on learning a spell call the Patronus charm, it makes a pretty sort of animal protector. And I can do all sorts of things, fun and helpful.

That sounds familiar. [ Only she can't place it. ] How does a wand or words make a difference?

Well a very good witch or wizard can do magic without words or a focus like a wand. But it takes a great deal more concentration and skill.

I could do it without words back when I could do it, and I barely knew what I was doing.

Though it seems magic differs, from place to place.

[As Felix knows better than most, what she is proposing is more akin to herding cats. If he couldn't manage it formally, maybe she'll have better luck. He'll save being bitter for another time, and it's no reason to not speak up]

I understand the sentiment. Discussing magic is quite different when the other party understands it. On that topic...I'm working on something on the Iskaulit that may be of interest.

I wouldn't mind in the least. [Which feels like a colossal understatement]

It's a small space I'm preparing for meetings of that nature. A private lounge, mostly, with warded rooms adjacent for practice and experimentation. Possibly storage for common materials and components for users who require such things.

That sounds wonderful, it's always good to know more and frankly I find I can learn much from others even if their skills are different than mine. It would like a perfect situation you have in mind! Shall we set something up for next week perhaps?

I happen to agree. Often we do not realize what is possible until we see it from someone else.

The room won't be ready for some time, I'm afraid. [He can't conjure furniture out of thin air] However, the library is adjacent and a decent enough place to gather in the time being. Any time you would like would be fine. Just say the word.
