[Having been unconscious for two weeks, when Bigby woke up he had promptly decided to take a couple of days to sleep it off. It's only now, after a shower and some food that he bothers to take to the comm.

He's in the shuttle bay, where his massive bulk fits best.]

I was thinking about starting some kind of immortals evening. Get together. Bitch about how things have changed over the last couple of centuries. Commiserate with others who get the whole 'living for fucking ages' thing, if that's what floats your boat.

Just finding it weird, being surrounded by so many mortals. Fables keep themselves to themselves. No point making friends with mortals for us. Anyone interested?

... I might have eaten a few of their family members back in the day. Or... chewed on some of them. Hunted them if they came through my forest.

Yeah. I guess I could see how that could cause a few problems that someone may not be very quick to forgive.

I had control then.

I was a wolf. They're prey species. Of course I hunted them. The only thing I didn't hunt to eat was other carnivores, usually. Don't taste good. And wolves, of course. I'm not a cannibal.

I just had a different value system.

It's been... five hundred years. I doubt they're changing any time in the foreseeable future.

And I can imagine pretty far into the future. Hating me gives them something to occupy themselves. It's not skin off my nose. Not like I go anywhere near any of them.

Hey, when you have all the time in the world who knows what may happen. The ticket to the future is always blank after all. As long as it's not causing you trouble I suppose that's for the best you stay away then.

My work is in the city.

Though... sometimes I'd like to go up there. Be me, not... Sheriff Wolf.

[He means literally. In the city, he's not allowed to shift.]

I think I can understand that. [In some way. Vash always prefers pretending to be human. Yet, he wouldn't want to give up being able to "speak" to his sisters.]

If I'm not over stepping and being rude; what changed you from just being a wolf to Sheriff Wolf?

I don't know. Time. Circumstances.

I suppose, when the Adversary attacked, we had a common enemy. I started attacking his slave caravans and freeing people and some of them... started thanking me. Being nice. It was... new. Started me thinking of them as things other than prey who liked hurting me.

It's not a bad change from the sound of it. You gotta admit, getting thanked and being nice. Feels kinda good, right?

Yeah.

It was addictive.

Why I listened when Snow and Feathertop came with their mad idea to let me be human.

So it wasn't a natural transformation the first time?

I'm a Fable. What's 'natural'?

I can turn into a man because I was cut with a knife. A knife cursed with lycanthropy. Man to wolf. Wolf to man. Not quite the same, but good enough.

Was it weird being a person for the first time? I think it would be weird to suddenly be a wolf at least.

[He could have shifted earlier, but his father's abilities have, for the most part, been carefully suppressed and ignored.]

It was incredibly weird. Learning to walk again was fucking difficult.

Yeah, you would have lost two extra points of stability. But you got to admit, thumbs, right? Pretty great?

Thumbs are pretty good.

Two points and my balance. Tail makes a huge difference.

Oh, yeah! I didn't even think of the tail! That would change your balance completely!

Yup.

Walking was really difficult. Running is actually easier, momentum helps keep balance.

Changing size was the other really difficult thing. Everything was so different from such a smaller height.

[Because Bigby is not really anything but average as a human.]

What about stopping after running? [He knows it's kind of a rude question, but he can't stop the mental picture in his mind now.]

It's a good thing I heal exceptionally fast.

[Bigby has no shame about it. He had to learn to operate an entirely new body.]

Yeah, quick healing can definitely come in handy sometimes.
