[ After having been forced to play through tens of dozens of quote-unquote games — to say nothing of living through not just one, but two counts of interdimensional kidnapping — Aoko's more than used to suddenly finding herself in an unfamiliar place. It's just, you know, one of those things that happens. ]

[ The confetti's kinda new. So's the pudding. ]

Wow, uhm … [ Aoko grins sheepishly into the screen, parked on her butt on the S.S. Wonderduck's bridge with confetti all up in her short, fluffy mop of hair. It looks like she's been trying to desperately brush it out with her fingers – or maybe it's just naturally a mess? Mysteries abound. (Spoilers: it's naturally a mess.) ]

[ The silence drags for one beat. Two beats. And then — ]

...No. I've been here for ten months.

[a pause, frowning]

What's the last thing you remember?

[ Aoko bites down on the inside of her lip, briefly glancing away. Ten months. Nightingale had said a year, and now she knows that Clover is here, too … but still, she can't help but wonder. ]

[ When she looks back at Opal, her smile is tighter than it had been. ]

Good question! It's, ah ... I think there's something wrong with my memories.

What is it? I mean... Apart from the obvious.

[given that they've both come from a place with widespread amnesia.]

[bluediligence]

[ She huffs a laugh, running her fingers through her bangs and all the way down to the back of her neck. ]

We defeated – you know, her. [ Opal will understand the implications loud and clear, Aoko's sure. There's only one person that could be. ] I know we did, it's all everybody was talking about for ages afterwards. But now that I'm thinking about it, I can only remember the fallout from it.

[that surprises her enough that she has to stop and think of how to respond after a moment.]

So... You're sure it actually happened, though?

[bluediligence]

Yup.

[ That much, at least, Aoko sounds absolutely certain about. ]

There's no doubt about it. She's … [ Her lips press together in a thin line. She'd spent a long time convinced that there'd be another way; nobody had to die, they'd find a third option. ] It's all over.
