[Sam's very much subdued the day that Dean vanishes. If he reacts more viscerally to it, to knowing that this Dean was returning to his inevitable death at Sam and satan's own hands, nobody'd know it — he closes himself up in his room, keeps himself distant for a little while. It helps, because it also gets him away from those damned echoes that have begun to snowball. He's tried his best to ignore them, and with Dean suddenly gone... he doesn't trust himself to be anything but stressed at the sight.

Anyway. Um. Best to move forward, right...? Get back into things. Working at the bar keeps his mind busy, as does helping with the garden, and there's also helping with the weird messages from the planet, and — dammit, Sam, get back into things. Fake it 'til you make it. This too shall pass, if you pretend hard enough that you're fine. So he breathes in deep, breathes out, and addresses the fleet.]

My brother, Dean, um. Dean Winchester's left the fleet. I wasn't sure how many people knew him, but...

[A pause.]

Anyone want to talk? I could use something to keep me occupied. Your choice of topic, just shoot. I can be a pretty good listener, too.

[Help me get out of this funk, huh.]

[Vash smiles softly and if he could see the echo next to him he would have probably pointed to Rem. In response the echo smiles with a soft: "Oh Vash," as she starts hum. "I miss you too."]

Yeah, there's a few people I hope I'll be able to see once more in the end. [Although he's not sure he deserves to be in the same place someone as perfect as Rem has gone.] Although I think just about everyone has people they'd like to see again.

Getting to see them again early doesn't sound like too bad of a job perk.

[He smiles back.]

... It's not, you're right.

And. Um. I kind of... see things around people, lately.

I guess you could call it some kind of power.

See things around people? [Vash isn't sure what Sam means.] Like, an aura or something?

[That's something a paranormal investigator might have. Or at least sounds like something they might have.]

Erm... No. Like - images of things. Mostly from their lives.

Things that mean a lot in some way, you know?

[How to say this gently...]

Really? And you said this only just started? This isn't something you had back home?

[There's a reason he's bringing it up.]

Wait, can you see something from my life?

Whatever it is, it's probably not my fault.

[He hesitates, hand up. Surrender.

It's a woman.

A woman? Oh! Is she short and looks like she shouts a lot? [As he starts from recent memory.]

Actually, she's got long dark hair.

... She, uh. She seems very kind.

Long. Dark... [Again thinking recently.] Oh! Milly! I bet it's Milly! Brown, dark hair? Big, giant grin on her face?

[There's a laugh and an amused shake of her head from Rem. Maybe to help give Sam more of a hint to give or maybe she usually just starts to sing. Either way ~~she starts to sing.]~~

Black hair.

[He looks at the ghost -- the echo -- and thins his lips.]

She likes to sing.

[The suddenly change in attitude may, or may not, come to a surprise to Sam. Vash goes from smiles and amusement to suddenly quiet and slightly pale.]

...Rem?

[Vash speaks under his breath. More to himself, well aware that name means nothing to Sam. Although the echo nods and gives Vash a hug that he cannot feel.]

Ah, um-- [He clears his throat.] Is- aah, is she, well-- does she have a necklace? A long narrow piece that's yellow with a blue fin at the top?

[Yes she is.]

Yeah.

[He tries not to pay attention to the echo. But, uh. It's hard.]

It's not -- a ghost, though. It's just... an image. It's not real.

...uh, Sorry.

[Well Vash is certainly trying to pay attention to the echo he can't see. Looking left-right, up-down, any direction he can think of to try to see her.]

Sh- she's not? But you can see her? So she's here, isn't she? Where is she?

[Sam seemed to sincere to be pulling a really terrible joke on him.]

At your right.

[He shakes his head, regretting this whole thing immediately.]

I see her because... she meant a lot to you.

But she's not really here, Vash. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything.

[Vash's head immediately turns towards the right. He's not surprised that he doesn't see anything, but he is still a bit disappointed. He holds out an empty hand for the echo to take. Again not surprised, but still disappointed when he doesn't feel anything.]

She was. She meant a whole lot. She was very important to me.

[He shakes his head and smiles brightly at Sam. If he means that smile or not is anyone's guess.] No. No, it's fine. Really. It means that she's always with me, right? And if she's an image and not a ghost it means she's not being hurt, right?

[He smiles sympathetically.]

I know the feeling.

Still -- sorry anyway. This is all, um. Kind of new for me. Haven't always had these images.

Is it new in since you've arrived on the fleet? The last few days? Or developing just before you arrived?

[Mostly curious if it's a glitch or possibly something else. That and now he's more trying to distract himself from thinking about Rem than any real interest at the moment.]

[He shakes his head.]

I've, uh. Had them for a short time in another world.

They started up again since I showed up here, but... they got worse after that weird planet with the tech on it. The one that blasted that weird energy. When it happened, it made it all more common.

Luckily, I don't... see it 24/7, but it happens in doses.

The weird energy. Hm. Maybe it awoke something in you? Was there something similar that started these visions in the other world?
