voice. a quick sad post.
Who: Sam Winchester
Broadcast: fleetwide
Action: Red Fish
When: after a sad shuffle :C
[Sam's very much subdued the day that Dean vanishes. If he reacts more viscerally to it, to knowing that this Dean was returning to his inevitable death at Sam and satan's own hands, nobody'd know it — he closes himself up in his room, keeps himself distant for a little while. It helps, because it also gets him away from those damned echoes that have begun to snowball. He's tried his best to ignore them, and with Dean suddenly gone... he doesn't trust himself to be anything but stressed at the sight.
Anyway. Um. Best to move forward, right...? Get back into things. Working at the bar keeps his mind busy, as does helping with the garden, and there's also helping with the weird messages from the planet, and — dammit, Sam, get back into things. Fake it 'til you make it. This too shall pass, if you pretend hard enough that you're fine. So he breathes in deep, breathes out, and addresses the fleet.]
My brother, Dean, um. Dean Winchester's left the fleet. I wasn't sure how many people knew him, but...
[A pause.]
Anyone want to talk? I could use something to keep me occupied. Your choice of topic, just shoot. I can be a pretty good listener, too.
[Help me get out of this funk, huh.]

action
[Or at the very least, there's a list of people's usual tea (or hot cocoa!) orders taped to the kitchen fridge. Stefan takes his regulars (and semi-regulars, and whoever drops by) very, very seriously.]
I'm just hoping I remembered right this time.
action
[He gives a cheerful grin.]
I'm a Winchester, so, uh... we've had some of the worst motel coffee in the world.
You can do better than tar, so you're alright.
action
[He gets what Sam means, though, so he relaxes.]
Guess you're no stranger to being out on the road?
action
I lived on the road for at least a good thirty years of my life, actually. It was kind of a weird childhood. Traveling family, never really stuck anywhere. Only had a few homes for a few years. Didn't... really pan out.
action
[Now he just feels awkward.]
It sounds more "unique" to me. I'm sure you saw more of the US than I ever did.
action
Saw the big ball of yarn a lot.
Never have been to Disneyland, though.
Probably since we were living off credit card fraud, mostly.
action
[He's not even going to ask. This road will lead to Questions, and he's not sure he's comfortable asking 'em.]
Disneyland's not that exciting, anyway. Not compared to the stuff we've seen.
action
I don't know, I've heard great things about the Matterhorn.
action
[He tilts his head.]
But I was also, like, ten, so my memory's biased.
action
Yeah. It's amazing how different things look when you're thirty-something looking back at elementary school days, huh?
[His memories can be weird. Sometimes things he remembered well before Hell kind of blur, and sometimes things he didn't remember nearly so well hit him hard, real hard. He thinks maybe the Trials did that to him; he remembered a lot of really insane shit he would have never recollected with such clarity.
Sam's never quite sure how his brain works.]
But I guess you're right. Disneyland doesn't really match up to floating through space with talking horses and giant ice planets.
action
[Stefan's never going to forget that mental image of a giant penguin waddling through the Iskaulit. Some things, tbh, can never be unseen.]
I have no idea if our Earths are remotely the same, but in the off event that they were, I would've gladly dragged you down there.
action
Talking penguin?
[You can't just throw that lifesaver out there and then immediately reel it in!]
action
action
One of these days, I'll get used to the talking animals thing.
That's one topic I've managed to evade in my lifetime back home.
action
[Save the Earth was a magical place in every single sense of the word.]
As long as you're not being rude or anything, uh, I don't think it's a problem.
action
[He grins, though, shaking his head.]
Just one was enough for me.
I try not to be rude. Um. I admit, I've got a little prejudice. Being raised to mistrust anything that wants to eat me, potentially. You know. It makes you have to re-evaluate sometimes.
action
[His smile doesn't quite reach his eyes - he might've had a crisis or two about whether he should keep drinking animal blood. Sentient animals deserve to live happy lives too! Synthetic blood just might be the way to go, etc.]
At least they've been pretty patient with us dumb humans.
action
Sure, I'm a college drop-out, but there are worse things to be.
[ROLL CREDITS.
teasingly:]
I don't mind the vacation from fangs and claws, anyway. I like my blood in my body.
Re: action
Stefan takes a sip of his mug to stall for a reaction. He knows that Sam's a hunter, but he's a lot less sure of what would happen if he admitted his fanged secret. So his laugh is a super nervous one:] Yeah, um. I'm glad they're not wrecking much havoc either.
action
...Even so, it's important to know who the monsters are. I mean... I've met a lot of people who aren't human who are genuinely good people, who've never cause a problem. [He looks a bit wistful, looking toward the wall. Thoughtful.] And I've met some really shitty human beings. Hell, I can't pretend I'm perfect or that I haven't caused problems before, either. I've done things I'm not really proud of.
It's not really about what you are, you know? It's about what you do.
Choices, and all that.
action
[He breathes out a little, thinking of Surah Al-Fatihah: Guide us to the straight path - The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.]
I'm sure they - the fangs and claws and uh, whoever - appreciate the discretion.
action
The same applied to me. I mean... It's not as if I hadn't been at the other end of a hunter's gun, anyway. [He bites his lip, quieting. He's been slowly being more open about it — not often, but a little at a time. Starting with Charles and moving onward.] I've learned a lot over the years. I'm thankful for that.
action
[Now he just feels bad for clamming up about his own past and trying his best to keep quiet, even though he's nowhere near the best liar.]
Before I came here, I didn't have the highest opinion of them, given uh, my hometown. [He peers down into his mug, swallowing his fear before he admits - ] I'm sorry, uh. I might as well be honest, I lied about Mystic Falls being perfectly normal.
action
[He gives a little smirk, humored.
He hardly minds that Stefan was misinforming him; it's a hunter thing anyway.
We lie about places and things, too. No biggie.]
action
It was a super tiny town, too - six thousand something people? - with more than its share of vampire problems. [Stefan might've contributed to a good chunk of them.] I liked it well enough, but uh, a vampire or werewolf running loose was like a Tuesday.
