So I guess I don't need to call the top bunk...

[ The first thing Steph did was check out the bunk room. After all, there's not a ton of room on this ship, it seems like the most comfortable place to hang out... She might as well get used to the place she's going to be spending most of her time, apparently.

[Chopper had been in the room as well, doing something with his portable device before he looks back to Steph with a grin.]

This place was starting to feel really empty...

[ She laughs a little, levering herself up onto her chosen bunk so she can perch there, legs dangling down. She can't sit up entirely straight, with the bowed ceiling so close, but she feels like she'll sleep easier in the enclosed space. ]

Empty? Well, I guess if it's just you, yeah. [ He's pretty tiny. ] I feel like if we get many more people here, it's gonna start to feel pretty cramped.

I'm used to a lot of people! Without my crew, I feel lonely... But if we can at least get other happy faces that are looking to go home, then I can feel a bit inspired!

[You know, to try hard and help them all escape!]

But you're right, I don't really have to worry about space...

[ She tilts her head curiously. ]

Your crew? You were on a ship before? Like... space, or on water?

On water! [Looking proud, he puffs out his own chest.]

I'm a pirate!

Oh. I... honestly would not have guessed that.

[ Long, awkward pause. ]

Your crew... stole from people?

Really?

[Doesn't he look like a pirate... Doesn't he!! Okay no he doesn't. But he's really casual about admitting this.]

Yeah, we have! That's what pirates do.

Yeeeaaah... I was really hoping you meant a different kind of pirate. The nice cuddly Disney kind or something...

[ She presses her lips together, trying really hard to keep her expression neutral and mostly failing. This is awkward, and she's not sure how she's supposed to feel about this. Other than that she doesn't want to have to punch her tiny new captain because he's a freaking criminal. ]

And I'm guessing they don't do that by asking nicely, huh?

My whole crew is very nice! They're all kind people!

[He says this sternly, cheeks puffing as he thinks on it. He doesn't know what Disney is, and he definitely doesn't notice the increase in tension. He's nothing if not naive.]

But sometimes we need supplies, or Nami sees some gold she really wants... Oh, and Luffy really likes meat, so if we run across that--!

Yeah, they sound like really nice criminals! You think the people you steal from feel that way too?

[Sorry, Steph, he doesn't understand sarcasm...]

Hmm, no, usually they end up getting mad... Oh, but wait! Sometimes Luffy makes friends with them, anyway! There are a lot of kind people out there.

[ She stares at him blankly for a moment. ]

Friends?

Yeah, friends!

[He's always staring blankly.]

I don't think you can really make friends with people you're afraid might kill you. Because. Y'know. Pirates.
