[Those spooky scary skeletons are back in the cupboard for another year, but the ship cruises onward. Whether the crew is taking a break from the planetary mystery and waystations, or just generally hanging around the ship mingling, the Heron is here for you.]

a. shuttle bay

[Erik has spent a lot of time in here of late. First setting up some steel boxes atop a dedicated table that he got from somewhere. One day it just appeared in the shuttle bay. He could have made it himself; he hasn't bothered to say. After his sojourns to the planet, the three boxes are now filled with soil and some small plants.

Erik can often be found checking on these a couple of times a day, or rigging up a set of UV lights around them.]

b. kitchen

[Some spoils of a more edible kind have also been dumped onto the kitchen bench. Pumpkins, berries, and tuber-like vegetables can be found in a basket on the table for anyone to take. Towards the end of the week, crew members could run into Erik muttering to himself as he considers what to do with the leftovers.]

c. around the ship

[While Erik's routine is far less regular and visible than it used to be, he can still be encountered eating the odd meal in the kitchen, or fixing pieces of the ship around the corridors. He looks tired most of the time, and tends to tense up if taken by surprise. He'll still spare a moment to talk, though, and relaxes soon enough.]

[ It's been a while since he's seen Erik, between the planet, apparently being asleep, and Erik's avoidance since his and Charles' glitches. Bucky happens to be going to the kitchen for a cup of coffee, and is surprised to find Erik already present. He takes him in, grumbling over the kitchen bench filled with produce and makes it a point to make some sort of noise as he enters the kitchen.

Erik probably notices him, anyway, but he knows how it is being caught off guard. ]

Planning something special?

[exothermia]

[He stiffens slightly at the sound, and turns to see-- Winter. Winter's been out for a long time. Erik had started to think he may never wake. There's a moment of clear surprise before he steps forward. He forgets to answer the question in his haste to address the other, more important fact.]

You're up.

[reconstitution]

I am, yeah.

[ Not that he ever intended to be out for so long in the first place, but who the fuck expects it? Guess it's good to know his absence was noted, at least? It looks like Charles and Erik managed to keep things running in the interim. As if he had any doubts. ]

Did everything go okay?

[exothermia]

[Thankfully, the Heron tends to run itself rather well. Erik wouldn't claim to have done much direction or organisation on the ship these days. Those chores he did do were much devolved from ten years ago. Cooking in particular has completely slid by the wayside. He rests his hand back on the table, moving into a looser pose.]

Yes... everything's been fine. We're still in the same system, and nothing too eventful has happened. We did locate the source of the SOS beacon - I have video and photos on my communicator from the location.

[reconstitution]

I'd like to see those at some point. Not now, I don't want to interrupt what you're doing.

[ He wants Erik to work on his gardening project, because that guy needs something nice in his life. It will be nice to see some sort of plant life when they're stuck between planets. ]

[exothermia]

[Erik blinks, and looks back to the random assortment of produce on the table.]

I'm not doing much of anything. Just considering what to do with these leftovers that no one took.

I forgot which option I chose, I'm so embarrassed!! Thank god it was only meta

[ Bucky looks over the table and considers the options. ]

I guess we could do a stew with the pumpkin and those potato-looking ones? Maybe a jam or dessert with the berries?

it's all good!! Winter clearly just saw him doing it earlier

...I suppose. [He had considered just throwing them out, and keeping one piece for Lavender. Cooking wasn't much on his mind lately.]

[reconstitution]

I'm sure we could find a recipe somewhere. Even roasting them would be easy enough if we didn't do a stew.

[ 'We', meaning he's more than willing to help. ]

There may be recipe books in the library. I haven't looked.

[reconstitution]

I'll see if I can't find one. I need something new to read, anyway.

[exothermia]

[He gives Winter a slightly dry look, then prods one of the pumpkins.]

Recipe books don't make good reading. They're very... formulaic.

[reconstitution]

Only meant I'd to to the library and get one of those, too.

[exothermia]

[He nods; that's a better thing to do, he thinks.]

Have you spoken to Charles yet? [The other man is bound to be happy that Winter is awake again.]

[reconstitution]

I did. It was good to see him again.

[ It's a relief to see all of them, honestly. Grounding to be around his crew. ]

[exothermia]

It's good to see you as well.

[reconstitution]

Likewise.

Oh... if you haven't seen it already, Charles and I have set up some plants in the cargo hold. It won't take over the entire space, no more than what's already been done.

[reconstitution]

..I was wondering where that came from. It's a good use for the empty space.

[exothermia]

[He lifts a shoulder in a faint shrug. Considerations of using the space hadn't factored into the decision much. They had raised the idea, and then made it work. That was all. The fact that they shared this space with others had only occurred to Erik after.]

It will probably take a while for them to grow into anything substantial.

[reconstitution]

That's part of the appeal, isn't it? That you have to watch it grow.

[ It's nice to see that the Heron is starting to become a home as opposed to a place they're stuck. It took long enough, anyway. Not that they want to be stuck here. ]

[exothermia]

[He nods, conceding the point.]

It's part of it. I haven't really thought that far ahead.

[reconstitution]

It's something to take care of that can't sass back to you, too.

[ Not that that holds any sort of appeal. ]

[exothermia]

[He smiles faintly.]

That can have its benefits, if it's done right.
