[ Hello, fleet! Today you get a message from someone who's been more than a little absent the past month. Some people may be more aware of it than others, but he's finally crawling out of the woodwork.

Waking up has been more than a little disorienting, because he didn't recall falling asleep, or when. It makes him uneasy, a solid weight sitting in his gut. The last time he couldn't remember things, it wasn't so great for the fleet. ]

What year is it?

Not sure how long I was out..Is everyone okay?

[She lets out a breath she hadn't even been aware of holding. Because Winter remembers her. She's always paranoid about that.]

it's okay it's not your fault i'm just glad you're back and i hope you're not feeling too fucked up and um yeah i guess let me know if you wanna hang out or something

Honestly? A little. Feels like I was asleep a lot longer than I was.

You can come over if you want. Not up for much, though.

that's not a good feeling to have i'm super sorry i can come over if you're okay like just for some dumb vids or whatever if you're really okay with it but like you don't have to let me bug you just to make me feel better i'm okay i'm tough and okay

[She is so not okay, but she's trying very hard because she does want to keep being tough and reliable.]

Bring Jellybean with you?

[ Hopefully that will at least act as a bridge enough for her to cross on her own. He knows they ended on a wrong note, and he wants to make it right.. He's just not sure how. ]

[Part of her wants to ask if he's bullshitting her to make her feel better, but this is Winter. He doesn't bullshit, not like that. So she's not going to question it.]

[So she heads right over, Jellybean perched on her shoulder. She arrives pretty quickly. It's also probably obvious that she's been in a fight or three recently, but she's just about incandescent with happiness when she pokes her head in the door.]

Winter!

[ He's still in bed when she pokes into his room, but he's at least managed to sit up. Winter's working the feeling back into his legs. It's a slow process, apparently. ]

Hey, Wrath. Jellybean.

[ He frowns at the signs of her fighting, but doesn't say anything. That's her business, not his. ]

[At that frown, she glances behind her, an automatic reaction. No, nothing there. She eases a few steps into the room.

Jellybean, not at all recalcitrant, jumps off Wrath's shoulder an trots over to Winter, her tail held high. She jumps onto his bed and immediately headbutts his arm.]

Guess Jellybean missed you too. Um. Want a drink or something?

[ As soon as Jellybean gets close enough and headbutts him, he scoops the cat up with his good arm, rubbing her chest with a few fingers. ]

Something hot. Maybe tea or coffee?

Sure! I can do something really coffee-like if you don't have any in the galley. I'll be right back!

[She ducks back out. Feeling useful? Also great. Just feeling like she's helping Winter out is awesome. She knows her way around the Heron's galley just fine so she can make drinks. Thus, she's back in a few moments, with two steaming mugs. One gets offered to Winter.]

[ When she comes back, he has Jellybean curled on his lap. Winter offers her a grateful smile, taking the mug. ]

Thank you. [ He pats the spot next to him on the bed. ]

[If there is anything in the world cuter than Winter with a kitten in his lap, Wrath can't think of it right now. And that he invites her to sit with him is... Nice. Really nice. She's not averse to asking, but it makes her feel good to not have to.

So she sits next to him, legs folded, and then carefully leans against his side.]

Okay?

Yeah, this is okay.

[ It's nice having Wrath nearby, especially after waking up chilled with no sense of time. Everything seems so far gone, yet it was only a month. ]

Thank you, Wrath. [ It feels like he can't say it enough times after what he's put her through. ]

[She assumes the thank you is just for the coffee-ish beverage. He hasn't put her through anything as far as she's concerned.]

You're welcome. Sorry I wasn't here when you woke up.

[But she hasn't been over to the Heron much lately, for a lot of reasons.]

It's alright. Wouldn't have been much fun. Took a minute to remember where I was.

[ It had felt like he was asleep for a long time, the way he always felt immediately out of cryo. ]

[That... Sounds freaky, really. Memory is a delicate thing, and she knows it's even worse for her and Winter. She rests her head against his shoulder for a moment.]

That's scary when it happens.

[Might as well try to get things fixed up now. Everything always gets weird when she tries to avoid taking about things.]

I'm sorry about being all weird and sit right before you went down. It was a dumb thing.

..Yeah. [ The silence permeates the room, and he sets down his mug so he can run his fingers over Jellybean's fur. ] I hate waking up.

[ Winter lets Wrath talk, and he shakes his head, bumping his cheek against her head at his shoulder. ]

I'm sorry I didn't handle things better. There were complications here and I didn't tell you my reasons. I didn't think.

[All she can really do for that is slide an arm around his waist and give him a little squeeze of a hug.]

You don't have to tell me jack shit. You're the captain.

[She sighs, still leaning against him.]

I think that's why shit got kind of sideways. That's the first time there's ever been some kind of... Personnel issue. So I tried to treat you like I know I'm supposed to treat other officers, but it didn't feel right. I mean. I was getting emotional about stuff I shouldn't have been, I guess.

[ It's enough from Wrath, that small show of affection. It speaks more loudly than words to him. It says what she doesn't need to speak aloud. ]

We're friends, which is why I should tell you shit. Not because you're not part of my crew. You're one of my best friends, Wrath, you don't need to treat me like a captain. Call me out if I'm being a fucking asshole..

[She considers this.] Were you being an asshole?

[She hadn't thought so.]

I never know where the line is, so you'll have to tell me if I'm being unfair or being a jackass.

[ Maybe he's over-analyzing, but thinking back, he may have been a little harsh. ]

Okay, I'll try. I mean. I do anyway? But I don't think you were being unfair or anything. I was just being... Dumb.

You weren't, I don't think. Just remember for next time and I'll try to do better, too..

[ The last thing he wants to do is let down his best friend. ]

I guess neither of us were wrong. [So then why did it get weird? Probably just because she's bad at this.]

But all we can really do is keep going forward then. [She smiles up at him.] All that's okay as long as we're together.

..That's right, yeah. Together or not at all.

[ Not quite 'til the end of the line', but something he still holds close. It was something he made in the fleet, so it's solely his own. ]

Together or not at all. [Sometimes things don't get wrapped up neatly. It also doesn't matter, Wrath decides. They just have to keep trying.

She snuggles in closer to Winter's side.]

You didn't miss much. These waystations suck. Not really anything to do but drink and punch assholes.
