[The Interfaith Center sounds far more bustling and busy than usual - and anyone peering inside would quickly figure out that a communal dinner is underway! Take off your shoes and walk in: the lounge has extra tablecloths on the floor as well as buffet tables with non-alcoholic beverages and all sorts of food, including Jordanian cuisine (or the outer space equivalent of Jordanian food).

The board games are out of their hiding nooks; the furniture's arranged for the maximum seating possible; and even the teddy bears donated by Kitty & Winn are out for cuddling, should anyone want them.

The kitchen's bustling with helpers - Stefan's running around at vamp-speed to make sure everything's a) done on time and b) cooked to perfection - but he sure wouldn't mind an extra hand. And if you're still not up for some food? Well, the prayer rooms are open as usual. There's always a quiet moment to be found, even if the laughter's louder and the scent of freshly-baked mansaf's wafting through the long corridors.

Anyone and everyone who's ever been inside the Interfaith Center has been invited (via text message - and Stefan even used the fancy emoji). If you're not particularly faithful or devout? Well, drop by anyways. There's more than enough food to spare.]

[ He looks over, sighs when he sees that Stefan is, indeed all the way over there! ]

Okay! [wait a tic] Wait wait, what do you mean 'different kind of vampire' thing? Are they different in your world? Do you have vampires? [He's not trying to be nosy but like, look, he's just doing some research,]

Oh, uh, yeah. We have vampires. I am one. [ He's pretty casual about it, unlike Stefan. Clearly it's not such a big deal in his world (anymore). ] Half, anyway. But yeah, pretty different. Like, he's got that crazy strength and speed thing goin' on? Definitely not somethin' I've got.

Whaaaaat? That's so cool! Is that part of why you can use arte- uh, magic? All that fire and stuff?

[ Not the reaction he was expecting! fjdskl but he smiles nonetheless, even if it's on the sheepish side, and he pushes a hand through his hair. ]

Heh, thanks? Um-- but, nah, it's not why I can use magic. I was just born with it. 'S not tied to my race or anything. There's mages from all races. Though demons tend to be more likely to use it, I guess.

Wait, so what about your magic-- uh, arte? Artes plural? Somethin'? Is it unique in your world?

[ His turn to be curious and research things! ]

Pretty much! I can only use elemental artes like that because of my pact with Lailah. By myself I'm just an average human being. Humans can't learn magic like yours back home, and if they try to mess with seraphic artes their souls get twisted.

Eithan sits in front of him, nodding while he listens and takes it all in. ]

Their souls get twisted? [ Low whistle! ] Geez, that sounds rough. So if anyone wants to use artes without the risk of their soul gettin' all fucked up, they've gotta make a pact?

Well...kind of. Back home, Shepherds don't usually show up unless the world's in a really rough state. There's a lot of conditions and things that come along with it, a person has to have high resonance and only really powerful seraphim can be Prime Lords anyway. Shepherds are expected to act as an envoy between seraphim and humans, so nobody could become a Shepherd because they were curious about artes because a seraph would look into their heart and see their motives first.

And 'cause that's a selfish motive, it's not happenin'. Keeps all that power out of the wrong hands, right?

[ Boy, he thinks, they could stand to have something like that back home... ]

Bingo. [grins] That's why the Prime Lord -Lailah, in this case- acts as a guidepost and moral compass for the Shepherd. Humans are fallible, and sometimes are incapable of seeing the bigger picture. The Prime Lord makes sure the Shepherd doesn't use their powers for personal or political gain.
