[When the feed clicks on without any intervention, as Atroma-made devices are wont to do, Jennifer's still asleep. However, it's but a few moments before she wakes, giving a gasp and looking around for a moment, confused, before it sinks in, and she lets out a moan of frustration.]

Goddamnit. [Then, realizing her communicator is turned on, she grabs it and turns it off, with a long-suffering sigh.

After talking to Beverly, Jennifer takes some time to check out her ship and its crew, making sure things are the same as they were when she went to sleep- for she'd gone home for a while, and been kept busy. Satisfied that nothing major had happened in her absence, when Jennifer makes a deliberate broadcast, this time she's holding up a new sponsor gift- a gray jacket with yellow stripes and a black leather jacket, replicas of her uniform from home. Except the Atlantis logo reads ATLANTA, and the pegasus has been replaced by a unicorn, and the yellow stripes on her jacket are very... neon.]

Now that I'm awake again, anybody want to start a sports team called the Atlanta Unicorns? Atroma was kind enough to welcome me back with these, and it struck me as a very good team name. Thanks, sponsors, you're the best.

[The sarcasm is laid on pretty thick.]

You'd think - but Atlanta never struck me as the unicorn type.

Yeah, I'm kinda having trouble thinking of a city that WOULD go for having unicorns as a team mascot.

True. Some planet somewhere would want it- and we visit a lot of places here. Maybe I can palm it off for some extra credits.

You might convince a whole city to change its name to Atlanta. [A pause] Or manage to insult some culture so fantastically you'll be scampering out quick as you can.

[There really is no in-between middle road with this guy.]

Both are equally plausible. I'm doing so much more planetside visiting than I did back home, and I don't think I'll ever get used to having to rapidly adapt to the environment so often.

Rabid adaption is kind of in my job description. It's something you... well. [Wryly:] Something you have to learn to adapt to.

[Jennifer smiled.]

So was your home a bit like this... all the exploring, going planet to planet a lot?

I serve on a starship. That's kind of our thing, that exploration.

So at least you're used to the changes here... that's good. I'm from Earth, but I lived in another galaxy back home. I was head of medicine for a scientific expedition, though we had a base and explored outward from there.

Head of medicine? I'm the Chief Medical Officer of my ship. From Earth, like you, but living on a starship and exploring deep space.

[She nodded.]

Our team explores a lot of unknown planets and has a LOT of personnel, so I had the daunting task of keeping on top of all the strange injuries and diseases they could come back with.

And some of 'em [looking at you, Jim] seem to go looking for new and exciting diseases and injuries to bring back with 'em. 'Because it looked interesting' is never an excuse to go literally poking at something before scanning it.

Believe me, I know that pain very well. My boyfriend's a scientist and a physicist- a very intelligent one, as he likes to remind us- and he's usually the one to ask "What does this button doooo?" and then actually push it.

Let me guess: doesn't give anyone any warning, just pushes the damn button, and expects everything to work out.

Yeah, pretty much. Sometimes he doesn't have a choice, but sometimes his curiosity gets the better of him, and then he has to clean up his messes. Luckily, he's more than capable of doing so.

[All of this sounds so ridiculously familiar.] His name's not Jim, is it?

[Jennifer grinned.]

Rodney, actually. But it sounds like you have one of those, too.

My captain. It's my job to keep him healthy and he certainly makes my job difficult some days.

[She nodded.]

I have a whole crew like that- they do the bulk of the offworld explorations and have a penchant for getting in trouble. Not only by pressing buttons, but managing to anger the natives.

I feel like we could be swapping stories all day and every one of 'em is gonna make us need a drink or two.

Pretty much. I'll have to remember to include that time I had tentacles growing out of my body.
