I had a lecture planned but I realized it felt rather redundant. We have huge list of lectures and while each topic is interesting, I feel it lacks the feedback aspect that's so important in our education. To quote one of my favourite books . . .

So, I put the question to the Fleet. What would you like to learn and how can we help each other? I hold classes on the Iskaulit for training of powers, but I'd be happy to broaden my classes for other subjects and needs.

What do you mean by "certain knowledge" though?

Truths, news that might have hindered progress or hurt others.

[ Charles digests that quietly. ]

I think that some truths or news could hurt people, yes. But I think it's better to have some honesty in the relationship then to have someone else use those truths against you. That's how you measure the weight of a person. Truth hurts. But they hurt less when they come from someone who cares.

I would argue that it could hurt more coming from someone who cares for you, who you care for. You can't imagine those coming from the people you hold most dear.

[ He's vaguely amused. ]

I don't have a hard time picturing it. No relationship is without its hurts and pains. It's up to you to decide if it's worth that possibility.

You sound very sure.

Is that something you teach along with "powers"?

Well, I've been on the receiving end of terrible decisions.

I don't believe it's something that can be easily taught. It's more of an experience. Just hearing me talk about it won't make it more real or believable for you.

[ as the maker of terrible decisions... ] I don't think this is something I'd need to be taught.

I'm more ...curious about what help you want to offer.

When it comes to powers?

[ He pauses, gauging his own response. ]

I'm telepathic. A powerful one. I can easily soothe a lot of problems that come from the mind. The key to knowing yourself and finding your balance usually comes from your mental state after all.

You're a human. Were you born with this power?

[ naturally, he reaches out for him in the force ]

[ Charles is definitely of the Light side, though he has his moments of moral grey. ]

I'm a mutant. My powers manifested when I was nine.

[ more mutants. mixed feelings about these mutants. he wonders if hank told him mutants are like in his universe. ]

...I've never met a human with strong telepathic abilities before.

We're not all that common.

[ Or liked, but that's different. ]

At the most, I've met a few that can project or sense other people's feelings but nothing close to myself.

[ Discounting Jean, but Charles isn't keen on revealing her existence to strangers. ]

And what is closer to your range?

[ He sighs. ]

I can go deep into the mind. Memories, feelings, actions. I can take control as well.

You can. [ firmly, maybe a touch aggressive: ] But you won't.

Who trained you?

[ Charles doesn't question that statement. There's little point and he has no real way of proving his character. ]

No one. I had to train myself.

That's impressive. [ he remembers all too way of how wild his abilities were before he had anyone to guide him. ]

How do you [ a beat then he changes his mind ] That must have been difficult as well.

A lot of aspects of it were but I managed.

[ Well. Continues to manage. Telepathy is an ongoing process and almost any kind of backlash can topple him if he's not careful. ]

[ he frowns. it feels like charles isn't giving him the full details. that or he's impatient for it, while not knowing the question to ask. ]

And how do you do that? How do you manage such a power?

[ Charles blinks, perplexed. He understands the question, but he doesn't know how to answer it. ]

I . . . couldn't really tell you. I got my powers when I was nine. I had to learn control otherwise the consequences of my powers would be catastrophic. I suppose I was lucky to hold onto my focus and mental acuity.

I suppose not. If you hadn't learned it your way, I doubt you would be here offering people lessons.

Well, one of the things I had to learn quickly was mastering my emotions. Not to the point where I ignored them but I had to find a suitable balance.

[ He pauses. Then he replies, a little more subdued. ]

The point between rage and serenity is where true control lies.
