[Once upon a time the intention had been to brighten things up and bring people together for Winn's sake. Okay, it was also meant to cheer her up after Vision and Sascha leaving the fleet. Thanksgiving seemed like a good idea and she missed the date, but it's not like there are any Thanksgiving police around, right? She'd just keep it a small dinner of close friends, right? Except between her and Winn their close friends are already too many friends to call it small. And then why not invite their friends' friends? At a certain point she realized they're probably only leaving out a handful of people so might as well just have fleet-wide Thanksgiving. What is her life?]

Thanksgiving. Tonight. The Iskaulit. Potluck. So, that means bring food to share. And if you don't know what Thanksgiving means it doesn't really matter. You're still invited. (OOC: Respond here for video.)

[Several tables have been set up with mismatched chairs and occasionally crates for sitting. The food is a mishmash too with the various dishes people brought ranging from protein gels to snacks from the space stations to actual, creative and delicious dishes. She did manage to recruit a few people in advance with cooking augments or an interest in cooking to help her out and she supplied as much food as she could given their recent stops. At least there are a few pumpkin pies?

There's not much in the way of decorations happening, but there are some more comfortable spaces set up with games like chess and cards. She couldn't dig up an American football, but she did find a ball for tossing at least. They could make something work even if they had to go across to the gym for more room.

The main point is just to be around people and have a good time. Kitty left things pretty open so people are welcome to bring or make up their own activities.]

[Kitty is helping the cobbled-together event stay more or less in one piece, but that doesn't mean she won't stop to talk to you or have a piece of that pie. She also spends some time next to the chess board and peeks into the gym a couple of times with the hope of getting some kind of game together. She was on a baseball team in prison you know.]

[ thanksgiving. he almost forgot about it. it's a good idea, though, with so many loved ones being taken from them and such a gloomy and creepy send off from a sucky planet - it's good to remember all the good things they still have in their lives.

winn is sporting a scruffier look, he hasn't had the heart to get a clean shave since he lost sascha, on account of an in joke. the smallest things matter so much when someone is ripped from your life.

but still, he seems in high spirits around the holiday table, he takes his turn playing chess and cards, and he can even be persuaded to try his hand at something more athletic -- if you don't mind a very easy rival, or a not so great partner. otherwise, he's happy to watch and cheer for his friends. ]

[Kitty comes up behind him and slips her arms around before kissing his neck, careful to avoid scruff.] Happy belated turkey day. Or turkey-flavored protein day. [It's good to see him smiling.]

That's really long, I'm sticking with happy thanksgiving.

That works too. [Holding her man.] I don't remember my last Thanksgiving.

Kara had me over last year, it was great. Well, for like a hot minute before Alex and her mom started fighting but the food was amazing, I got tons of leftovers.

Leftovers are good. [She wonders what he did for thanksgiving before that. He was probably alone, wasn't he? She gives him a squeeze.] Pinkie did some baking so you know some of it will be good at least. I suggest going dessert first.

I will take that suggestion - ! [ no really, like right now. looking for pinkie's desserts! look the best food he's had in space was prepared by her. plus, it has the added bonus of always being meat free, so it comes free of concern of having to make explanations that would be so much more awkward now, though he's mostly left that concern behind. it's been so long and he's yet to have to explain anything. he feels so lucky to be surrounded by people who get it. ]

[It did take her some time to notice and longer to put together why or why she thinks it might be. She worries about the impact these things have on him. The not eating meat, the sleeping with the lights on, the not shaving. He always reacts in a lasting way and it's hard to see the hold things have on him knowing that it's not over. There will always be new things to face. But she also wonders if it's healthier in a way. She knows it must impact her too, but she holds things in and packs them down and keeps going. That may have worked when she was destined to live hard and die young, but now?]

Hey, wait for me. I'm not letting you get all the good stuff. [She would absolutely let him get all the good stuff.]

[ bottling things up is a schott family signature move. he hates the schott family, wants nothing to do with, to break free of it already. the lights thing was a humiliating necessity for him, but the rest of it he wouldn't as much call concerning - the no shaving thing is his way of grieving for his friend, isn't that natural? at least he's not crying in bed all day...and the no meat part, well...in a way he could've already left that behind him, he doesn't feel the intense feelings he used to when he looks at it anymore, but he chooses to hang on to it because he's afraid to allow himself to lose one inch of empathy.

he already feels like he's slipping sometimes, with how angry the atroma make him. he won't give them the satisfaction of making him snap on his own. if he can stay sensitive to animals, there's no way in hell he could kill a person, right? ]

You snooze, you lose! [ of course he's going to leave her some. he'll leave some for as many people as possible. he may want to stuff his face full of sugar for that much needed high, but he wants to see his friends happy even more. that's the best kind of high he can think of, right now. ]

Sore Winn...er. [She kisses his shoulder as he cuts a piece of pie. So far no regrets on this Thanksgiving thing. Winn is happy and that's what counts.]

Do you know how tempted I am to make up strange things whenever aliens or people from the past ask about Thanksgiving?

[ he chuckles softly at that pun, hey it was silly puns that broke their ice that first time, he will never not love that she makes them! and passes her that piece of pie, before cutting another for himself. ]

You're resisting? I'm totally telling people it's a day when we give the people we're thankful for a bunch of IOUs to use throughout the year. And the things some of them use them for, [ shaking his head ] shameless.

Oh, nice. [She laughs softly and smiles at the way he serves her first. Of course he does.] I was thinking more like defining thanks as something else. Something you give. I actually hadn't gotten very far into mine.

Don't go giving anyone thimbles.

[ he leans in for a quick kiss. ]

[She kisses back warmly, but not too deeply because this is a family event!]

Mmm...thimbles? [Not following, boyfriend.]

Never mind. [ just a childhood favorite. it can be hard sometimes, not sharing a cultural background, there's so much that he loves that he can't explain to her, not here. but someday. ]

Let's eat before someone snags this - and by someone I mean Kara. [ she is not above taking the food right out of his hands. ]

[She is aware of Peter Pan. She just forgot that part. Will it be worse when he finds out it just wasn't one of her favorites?] You are wise. Just phase your plate like me if she tries anything. [You can do that, right?]

My phasing's still broken, I keep meaning to take it to the shop, but you know how it is, you have to waste a whole day on it and they charge a fortune to change stuff you don't even need - can't bring myself to go.

You really should. I don't know how people go through life with all this opening and closing of doors. It might shave actual minutes off your life.

[There are many reasons for him not to respond to an invitation like this. First and foremost is the fact that he's not certain he's actually meant to have received it. He knows it was fleet-wide, but that doesn't mean Kitty wants or expects him to come. Secondly, he's not American, and has never celebrated this holiday. It factors lower in his life than even Christmas.

It's the request to 'bring food' that ultimately decides him. He'll show up, if only to drop off something. So show up he does, slipping into the room with a container under one arm. He doesn't intend to stay for long - long enough to leave the food. But he pauses to survey the tables and the dishes already arranged, faintly bemused that people still manage to put effort into things like this around here. If you catch his eye, he may linger to talk for a moment.]

Science can solve it, it just has other things on its mind.

[ feeling very human-shamed, wow. if he and cisco put their heads together they could probably -- make some badass man-made superpowers, how have they not been working on stuff like that yet? ]

[His is not a face she really expected to see and she feels conflicted when she does. Part of her seeing it as him trying and part of her saying it's too little, too late. Looks like the part that believes in second chances gets the floor.]

I didn't realize you were such a chef. [After all, he'd made her challah bread too.]
