[Garrett is not about to completely come out of the bag with the vampire thing. You know, the swimming test for witches was the the stupidest thing I've ever heard growing up. Frenzied morons would basically throw a suspected witch in a lake and if she floated, she was a witch. And if she sank like a stone, she wasn't. But what is the person if they doggy paddle in a mad panic? A witch who didn't learn to swim?

[There's a heavy humor in his voice, the kind one picks up with regards to death, to dark humor, and if there were such a thing as a verbal eyeroll, it'd be here.]

But this place! Fascinating to see so many of you open about your supernatural talents. Your unholy inhumaness, should you self-subscribe to such a dark description. As someone from such a boring, uneventful world, I'm just excited at the idea of a ghost on a roadside; no, we're pretty boring in hindsight, compared to you lot. I do not count it so - I am only... trying to make some repatriation for the hurts I have done others. If it helps someone, even the slightest bit... well. I am very selfish, I suppose.

A little selfishness is never a bad thing. We are all quite selfish.

Where the danger lies is what you invest your selfishness in.

You speak with the voice of one whose wisdon is hard bought - and I think you not wrong. What of yourself? Where do you put your selfishness?

A good question I've yet to really answer in my life, as of yet.

I like to think I'm fairly reasonable in my selfishness, though I fear I wander too often to commit. I've been in my share of war to earn one's freedoms, but it's a complicated beast.

It takes time, I have found, for most such things - and the answer is oft unexpected! But there is nothing wrong with wandering, I think - I do so myself, after all.

How else are you supposed to expand your knowledge, if not by traveling?

It's amazing how alive each place is; so unique and different.

... Of course, the more dangerous and dark it is, the more interesting.

A wiser Man than I once said that even though the world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.

Mm. It'd been brought to my understanding in youth that hope cannot exist without despair, and grief is but a symptom of love. Everything has its balance, doesn't it?

It stands to reason that something as ugly as the darkness allows the beautiful to stand out all the more.

Aye, I find it so as well. Perhaps it is a little sad, but it is how it is. My folk call it the Long Defeat, the fight against evil, and yet we fight it still, at every turn, for the greater sin would be to turn a blind eye.
