Who: Wrath
Broadcast: video to everyone
Action: Iskaulit, interfaith center (feel free to treat the action as a mingle)
When: broadcast is current, action happens the next day

[Wrath, all uniformed up and serious. Anyone who's seen it before will recognize this as her "in command" face, though she mercifully looks less pissed-off than she ever has before in this mode. More... thoughtful.]

This is a message aimed at the ship captains and first mates in the fleet, but I don't think it's a bad idea for other people to hear it. I'm Wrath, now captain of the Windrose.

This place is... weird, because we're given officer titles without an actual command structure in place, and without a legal code, oath, or universal moral authority over us. As someone who was a military officer for... I guess over twenty years, I find that really difficult.

It's pretty obvious that the intention for these ranks to be hollow, and for that to be a source of stress and drama that will entertain the audience. But captain is only an empty title if you let it be. And while we don't have any kind of unified mission or directive, there's one part of being an officer that can and should always apply: we take care of the people under our command.

I know a lot of you have gotten these arbitrary ranks without wanting them or having civilian or military command experience. I think it'd be helpful if we talked. I've got experience I can share, and I know other people do as well. And maybe together, we can come up with some ideas that will make everyone's lives better.

Stefan's said he doesn't mind if we borrow the meeting space in the Interfaith Center on the Iskaulit. This isn't for religious reasons, but because it's a nice space with plenty of chairs and hot drinks and stuff. If you want to participate in this discussion, let's get together tomorrow afternoon while we're still drifting, get to know each other, and talk.

Wrath out.

[Wrath doesn't really have expectations as such for people showing up, but she's made sure to get together some refreshments (tea and coffee-esque beverages, juice, and water) and some vegetarian snacks.

The space is set up to be friendly and welcoming, for people to talk in groups large or small, rather than as some kind of lecture thing. She's serious about wanting to keep it informal for now.

To hopefully keep the atmosphere relaxed even if she's in a more focused, serious mindset, Jellybean and Officer Snuggles are wandering around and will be happy to have attention from anyone.]

[ He blinks at that, but it isn't hard to think of whom she means. He was here, after all, when FDR was and they had hung around each other at times. He distinctly remembered first meeting him. What a trip that had been. ]

Let me guess - FDR?

That's the one. I figured you'd probably met before. [She drops into a more relaxed smile.] Nice to meet you, Jim. I promise not to stare more.

Heh, it's okay, I don't mind when it's someone as prettt as you.

[ He flashes a cheesy, but charming grin. He really can't help himself when it comes to flirting it seems. ]

namisan: (i see what u did there)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-11 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
[...pfft. She can't help grinning outright at that.]

I see the two of you have some things in common, at least.

Oh, just a few.

[ He shook his head with a soft laugh. ]

So, how are you taking being captain?

namisan: (you don't say)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So far so good. Though it helps that I don't think anyone else on my crew wants the job.

That seems to be a running theme on many of these ships. I always thought being captain was a position people would want, but now I get the feeling I might be a touch crazy.

namisan: (I like you)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-17 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
[She grins.] Depends on circumstance, doesn't it? Captain is a position some people would want, definitely. It's not for everyone. Especially not here, where the Atroma try to reduce it to a figurehead role and everyone's here against their will anyway. [She makes a face.] Not everyone wants to sail, you know? Or...whatever they call it in space.

Still. If I'm Captain, there are things I ought to do.

Oh, I definitely wanted it. I worked hard to be a captain back home, and I just really can't imagine my life not being one.

[ He chuckled. ]

And we say 'fly' where I'm from. Sailing is still very much reserved for the water.

But that's a good attitude to have - I'm sure your crewmates would appreciate it. Have you chosen a second?

namisan: (eyyyy)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-20 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Not yet. I've been thinking about it, though. [Heh. She smiles ruefully.] It'd help if the Atroma didn't stop shuffling my crew around so much so making it official would stick.

My captain didn't have an official second back home either, but we all knew who it was anyway. So I definitely have ideas. But you said you were a captain before this place, right? In space?

Yes, that's right.

I work for an organization called Star Fleet, and I captain the Starship Enterprise. One other of my crew recently came into the fleet here as well, though he's on the Caprine and a medical officer, so he won't show today.
namisan: (everything okay?)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-20 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
Huh.

...so basically you're one of the most qualified people on the Fleet, then. I'm surprised they actually brought in someone who knew what they were doing.

I don't think they did it on purpose, all things told. More and more it all seems rather... random. Even given that some people are from the same universes, I can't quite see it as a purposeful action. Plus it stands to reason that pulling people from the same world you've already taken one from would be easier.

namisan: (thinking)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-22 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
That is one theory. I tend to agree with it-- the Fleet seems unique in the way a large portion of people here were dragged from other places like this one. When you factor that in, I have a hard time believing the Atroma are the ones pulling all the strings. More like... put in charge by someone else.

Still, it's pretty rare that someone who is exactly suited to the environment turns up.

[personal profile] universal_charm 2016-12-29 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's all nothing but theory right now, unfortunately. If we had more concrete data on anything, we might come closer to answer, but for now we have to fly blind, as they say.

Hmm, I suppose so. There are others from space-faring worlds or more advanced worlds here, but I admit they don't make up the majority by a long shot.
namisan: (short hair IS better I agree)

[personal profile] namisan 2016-12-29 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably never going to be anything other than theory. [Sigh. Sadly.] Too much of a musical roster.

...also, digging for answers tends to get you glitched.

So I've heard. But eventually we'll get some more puzzle pieces.

Things that are buried have a way of coming to the surface, eventually.
