[Allen said to come by anytime during designated daytime, so after steeling his nerves for both potential bad news and potential awkward conversations, Yuan makes his way over to the Blue Fish for a face-to-face examination. He knows the odds are that if something were very wrong with his Cruxis Crystal, he'd be feeling worse by now, but the doubt that keeps eating at his mind has him on edge anyway. Better to be sure.

He looks around as he enters the lab, and can't quite help staring; his mana sense doesn't work over the comms, and Allen is...interesting.] ...Allen?

Aside from getting hungry and tired every few days, none. I'd be more alarmed if I had.

[But that noncommittal response is grating at him; it doesn't occur to Yuan, too used to adversarial relationships, that Allen might just be being polite because that's good manners.] ...If you've got something to say to me, kid, then say it. We both know you've got me at your mercy anyway, you might as well take advantage of that.

[...]

[There's a pause. Sure, he could choose to ignore the clear attempt to pick another fight. But the truth is, there was one question that's been preying on his mind for a long time.]

Did you know that your crystal was fueled by a trapped soul before or after you attached it?

[A bitter smile. And so they come to it.] After, of course. ...After we'd advanced far enough that their power was vital to accomplishing our goals. We weren't so callous back then as to use such methods, if we'd known the real truth to start with.

[They didn't become that ruthless until after Martel died.]

...But we also wouldn't have been able to accomplish all that we did, without them. [Or all the harm they did after their initial methods failed, for that matter.] I'm not saying it's right; but it was done. All I can do now is try to bring about a world where no one else has to face such a fate.

[To his credit, he listens. And there's another pause before he speaks. Almost as if he's taking a moment to assess if he should believe Yuan]

...Lloyd said something along those lines too, when I confronted him.

[He walks over to Beverly's desk to pick up her tricorder.]

When I'm not being a medic, I'm an Exorcist. I'm sure you could sense my power when you came. I became one so I could save the trapped souls that fuel Akuma, a type of weapon in my world that threaten humanity in my world. Those souls are as precious to me as any living person.

In other words, I'll help you now. You seem to need that crystal to go on, and you didn't know what it was when you put it on. And at least you seem to understand the weight of it now.

[He looks back at Yuan]

But I don't want to hear any sort of rationalizations or justifications for using them. Save it for whatever afterlife or deity you believe in, understand?

[Another thin smile that doesn't really look remotely happy.] If you know my world as well as this, you should know there's no deity I'd ever give my allegiance to. ...But I understand.

[He has to resist an eyeroll at Yuan's remark. He's not at all surprised, considering how Yuan in Paradisa had responded to Him showing up. Instead, he replies in the driest of tones as he heads back over and programs the tricorder to scan]

And here I was hoping you had found Jesus.

[He'll wait patiently for the scan to be prepared, but that comment earns Allen a blank look.]

...Is that the name of a god where you come from?

[At least confusion dissipates a little of the bittersnark.]

A messiah-figure in Christianity, yes. But considering the last time we talked religion, you put our God on a threat watch list - we can leave it at that. It just was meant as a joke.

[Wasn't Yuan's shining moment in inter-dimensional diplomacy. But with the scanner ready to go, he'll start holding in front of Yuan and moving it slowly as it scans.]

Okay, this should only take a moment.

[That earns one more smirk from Yuan before he lets the subject drop, this one sharply amused: even without knowing the context in which that happened, it certainly does sound like something he'd do.

But it's definitely time to change the subject, and there's an interesting one ready to hand, as he eyes the device Allen is holding:] ...I've never seen a scanner like that one.

[Yeah you keep smirking away, Yuan. You do that. But he'll sure go with the subject change]

It belongs to the other medic in this lab, it's from her world. It's very useful.

So your ship has multiple medics, and mine has none. [He shakes his head a little at the organization of this place.]

Does it read things besides mana signatures, then?

Yeah, the ship assignments aren't always logical. For awhile on my boyfriend's ship, there were three cooks but not much else.

[Which sounds like a fine ship to him, but apparently you need ~engineers~ and ~security~ ]

Oh, it reads all sorts of things. Vitals, neurological patterns, chemical composition - all depends on what you're looking for.

['My boyfriend', without a trace of concern or hesitation. Yuan's seen different cultures go by each with their own values on the subject, and he could personally care less - it's not exactly shocking, but still worth a mental note that in this environment homosexuality is apparently considered unremarkable.]

Interesting. That's a little beyond even the furthest advances of my world - we have scanners with all those functions, but not all at once, and none so portable.

[Well to be fair, Allen's not be the best measure of societal norms because he literally does not give a damn what people think of him.

That said yeah, space is really gay.]

Mm. Dr. Crusher's time seems very advanced. They even have machines that can replicate food.

[He pulls away the tricorder once the scan is complete, hitting some buttons to look at all the data with a "hmm" sound.]

[Back to business, now that the scan's done. Yuan leans forward onto the balls of his feet for a moment before forcing himself to relax and stand still: he might not understand the readouts even if he got a look at them, and it's probably not a good time to be rude.]

...How's it look?

[Another look, and-]

There's a little bit of interference from your augment, but it doesn't seem to be causing any destabilization to your readings.

That's a relief. [One that's visible on his face, for once. The second part makes him tilt his head curiously, though.]

How do you mean, interference? Does that happen a lot?

Sometimes, usually with people who have powers.

[He puts away the tricorder]

I'd say it's nothing to worry about, but we both know that's bollocks. [The fact that it is there in the first place is worrying enough on it's own] But there shouldn't be concern for it off-setting your keycrest's protection.
