Who: Okita Souji, the new kid in town, and you!
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: SS Golden crew
When: December 11th
Voice;
[There's a few moments of silence and low humming as the speaker figures out how this whole communicator thing works. There's a quiet "Ah!" and then the message begins. The voice is either a low pitched female or a higher pitched male, and there is little in the way of images to make it clear which is which. Fun times.]
I really wonder who would find it that fascinating to watch other people live their lives, but I suppose in space [That is still SO weird to say] you must not get a lot of other entertainments. I've read the guide on your network, buuuuut, well. It's a little dry, don't you think?
So why don't you tell me what would you say is the most important thing to know about being here? For example, this "e-lec-tri-city" thing is very useful. It's nice to be able to see so well, even if it's very, very bright all the time. And this little pocket communication thing is cute. What do you think?
Action for the SS Golden
[Once he's out from the bathroom he got locked in - thanks Handsome Jack - Okita spends some time acquainting himself with his new ship. Aka, he spends time slinking around and finding all the weird nooks and crannies in which he can hide stuff, himself, or possibly...other "stuff" in case it's necessary. Crewmates can find him anywhere on the ship wearing a white kimono and opening up vents and peering under cabinets, tapping on wall panels and trying to break into places he probably shouldn't go. All of this before he ever introduces himself, because hahaha manners.
What are those?]

I see . . . I do not know if our royal family is seen as "divine", but the king's family has ruled our country for years. His son is meant to take over when he dies, but the king does not have as much power as he once had. He has a council that makes many of his decisions for him.
[she knows enough about her world's government, but as for the rest she doesn't bother. It has very little effect on her, being someone who works outside of the laws]

Also, he chuckles a little at that description. It's just so similar hr can't help himself.]
That seems to be the way of dynasties, doesn't it? We also have a governing body who actually takes care of the real ruling.
[He works for them technically, but that's a secret he's learned not to reveal so casually. Even here in space, he can't be certain who is around and who might stab him in the back given the chance.]
I hope your country has a level transition of power.
no subject
Mm, so it seems. Though I have heard of many worlds who do not have a dynasty or royal family in place at all. It seems a little strange to me.
[she technically worked for them too, but she tries not to bring it up because she prefers being seen as a bad guy. She's a weird one]
If it doesn't, I will be very surprised.
no subject
Is that so? [He's heard something of the sort, too, but he doesn't really know anything about it.]
I wonder who they would trust to run their country then, if not someone who has proven their worth?
no subject
Mmhmm. I imagine they have some way to prove that they are capable, but it is likely something neither of us would understand.

Okita thinks for a second, tilting his head to one side before he shrugs and stands straight up again.]
I suppose it isn't for people like us to worry about. [Unless he has to serve them for some reason. Goddammit, Tokugawa government.]
May I ask your name? I realize I was remiss in asking for it.
no subject
She quirks a smile and shrugs as well] It has no effect on us, after all.
[though - yep, she forgot to offer her name again, she's losing what little manners she has. She hums and offers her hand] We have both been remiss. My name is Aurae Le Paulmier, but I go by Tempest. Well met.

He stares at her hand perplexed for a moment until he realizes this is what foreigner must do in lieu of bowing. He'd heard they had a different way of doing things, but this is the first time he's run into it.
He tilts his head and then extends the matching hand in a similar manner to hers, without actually reaching for her hand. Then he bows his head.]
Soujirou. [Because he has to lie until he investigates who all is in the Fleet.]
It is a pleasure to meet you, Tempest-san.
no subject
Tempest blinks as he extends his hand, then can't help but give a puff of laughter. This, at least, she's somewhat familiar with. She politely inclines her head in return . . . then reaches out to take his other hand with hers, shaking it] It is like this, with one's right hand. It is how many will greet you here.
But the pleasure is mine - Soujirou? [she says it slowly, trying to get the pronunciation right] Welcome to our ship.
no subject
Thank you for the welcome. It's unusual here - in many ways - but I hope I do not cause too much of a burden.
no subject
I doubt you will be a burden at all. Have you any questions, all you need to do ask.
no subject
[He smiles and bows his head.]
I hope I can return the favor soon enough.
