[There's a few moments of silence and low humming as the speaker figures out how this whole communicator thing works. There's a quiet "Ah!" and then the message begins. The voice is either a low pitched female or a higher pitched male, and there is little in the way of images to make it clear which is which. Fun times.]

I really wonder who would find it that fascinating to watch other people live their lives, but I suppose in space [That is still SO weird to say] you must not get a lot of other entertainments. I've read the guide on your network, buuuuut, well. It's a little dry, don't you think?

So why don't you tell me what would you say is the most important thing to know about being here? For example, this "e-lec-tri-city" thing is very useful. It's nice to be able to see so well, even if it's very, very bright all the time. And this little pocket communication thing is cute. What do you think?

[Once he's out from the bathroom he got locked in - thanks Handsome Jack - Okita spends some time acquainting himself with his new ship. Aka, he spends time slinking around and finding all the weird nooks and crannies in which he can hide stuff, himself, or possibly...other "stuff" in case it's necessary. Crewmates can find him anywhere on the ship wearing a white kimono and opening up vents and peering under cabinets, tapping on wall panels and trying to break into places he probably shouldn't go. All of this before he ever introduces himself, because hahaha manners.

What kind of work does a ronin do?

[He's both glad that his half-truths are working and a little guilty that he has to lie so much.]

Oh, just about anything. We can act as bodyguards or security, or escorts for lower lords and ladies as they walk about town. Anything where a sword would be useful.

I mostly played with the neighborhood children, and the children of the people who had taken me in.

[huaaaaagh]

Must be nice. No one carries swords nowadays, so it's a bit of a lost art. You have to be pretty versatile for a job like that, yeah?

[That...saddens him. He knew it had to happen, that for peace to come the sword had to be put aside, but it's just another reminder that his time has come to an end. Soon, he will be obsolete and abandoned along with his era.]

Well, I suppose, but there aren't that many real samurai around anymore. Mostly the ones who hire us just want someone to look imposing so ruffians don't bother them.

[huaaaaagh]

Makes sense. If you can afford that kind of protection and you're not getting it anywhere else, someone with a sword is top-notch when it comes to fighting skills.

[Swordsman bias, but he won't deny that if accused.]

And there are quite a few of us who are without masters now that the Black Ships have come and things are in turmoil. It's been a very strange time lately.

You enjoy the sword then?

[huaaaaagh]

I didn't at first. My home's on a dojo property, but I never had the discipline for formal kendo, so I kind of resented it getting shoved down my throat. Once I was able to do my own thing, I started to like it more.

Well, you sound like someone I know. Formal training can be fairly rigid, I agree.

Did you create your own form then?

Hah, I'm not that skilled. I dabbled in that a little bit, recently, but it's much harder than it seems at first.

[He has all of two Original Sword Skills in his roster and even they can be pretty hit-and-miss depending on the system. He hasn't tried them here.]

It is indeed. Learning the sword can take some people many years.

[And some are naturally gifted - or cursed.]

I began learning very young and the training was rigorous. Are you still training here?

[Yeah and some assholes get to keep their sword skills learned via digital information, oops.]

I train when I can, yeah. I've been learning hand-to-hand with the Paisley's captain for about a year now.
