[There's a few moments of silence and low humming as the speaker figures out how this whole communicator thing works. There's a quiet "Ah!" and then the message begins. The voice is either a low pitched female or a higher pitched male, and there is little in the way of images to make it clear which is which. Fun times.]

I really wonder who would find it that fascinating to watch other people live their lives, but I suppose in space [That is still SO weird to say] you must not get a lot of other entertainments. I've read the guide on your network, buuuuut, well. It's a little dry, don't you think?

So why don't you tell me what would you say is the most important thing to know about being here? For example, this "e-lec-tri-city" thing is very useful. It's nice to be able to see so well, even if it's very, very bright all the time. And this little pocket communication thing is cute. What do you think?

[Once he's out from the bathroom he got locked in - thanks Handsome Jack - Okita spends some time acquainting himself with his new ship. Aka, he spends time slinking around and finding all the weird nooks and crannies in which he can hide stuff, himself, or possibly...other "stuff" in case it's necessary. Crewmates can find him anywhere on the ship wearing a white kimono and opening up vents and peering under cabinets, tapping on wall panels and trying to break into places he probably shouldn't go. All of this before he ever introduces himself, because hahaha manners.

What are those?]

[HELLO THERE!!!!!

Some shorty is wandering, looking for his new crew. He's super jazzed to find more have appeared, and even if he'd rather be able to help get them home, it's nice for a captain to have people to take care of! Even if he's not sure if he ever does it very well. Still, he'll do his best, and that means meeting this 'Okita'!

Because whoa! Japanese, hello. It makes him really excited. He appears out of nowhere, the little sneak. Can you feel him approaching from the hairs on the back of your neck?]

Hello, Mr. Okita! I'm Takeshi, captain of the SS Golden. Are you doing okay?

[The seven-year-old has been working on his hello. He puffs his chest faintly, looking to be taken more seriously, because most people on this darn fleet treats him like a normal kid...! He's a warrior, dang it. He throws a lot of monsters.]

[He'd been investigating a bunch of hidden compartments when the hairs on his neck did indeed stand up. Living with a target painted on your back does tend to give one a fairly good sense of when people are sneaking up on you. He straightened a little and then relaxed when he heard the sound of a young voice rather than an older one.

Okita turned and looked down on instinct, smiling and casually sliding the compartment closed.]

Hello, Takeshi-kun. I'm doing quite well.

[Look at him puff his little chest!!! This is his captain, is it? He's okay with this. It's so cute!!!

Okita kneels down to better get at his level. It's important to pay respects to his new captain after all.]

Thank you for coming to greet me. You can call me Soujirou, if you like. Okita is so formal.

Yessir, that's a good name! I like it.

[Don't mind the 'yessir', he's said it so much in the last four years, it slips from time to time. He smiles pleasantly, though, looking quite friendly and round-faced. He's a funny little sight — he's in an overdsized kid sweater, and his hands appear to have odd black gloves over them. And his neck is covered in a similar odd black leather.

Also, the lad is very small.

That's the tragedy of being seven or eight but not aging since you were four.]

Did you find your room okay?

[Honestly, all the clothes here are weird to him. Anyone not wearing kimono or Japanese style clothing is weird.

But this child is precious and very serious, what with the "yessir" and all. Okita's smile only faintly wavers at learning he's also a security agent. They wouldn't give that augment to someone who couldn't haven't themselves and it's a bit of a tragedy that someone so young has to fight.]

I may have some later. I come from an age when all of this - [He motions to everything around them] - didn't exist.

But no, I haven't found my room yet. Could you take me there?

[It's all good, you look like you wanna celebrate a Japanese holiday today.

Takeshi's never gotten to participate, but it sounds fun, okay.]

Sure! Come this way!

[Excuse him, he's just gonna take your hand to help steer you toward the sleeping quarters.]

It's kinda got a weird way to get in, but it's not bad! I got real happy to get my own room again.

[He let's Takeshi lead him. Children always got a free pass from him when it came to physical affection and it's endearing how this boy isn't afraid of him at all.

He follows, careful not to trip.]

Does it? Did you not have your own room before?

[He gives a friendly smile.]

Not in Japan, nuh-uh! I lived in a real small apartment with my mom and her boyfriend.

But then when I came to space I got to have one...!

[Of course, his first room in space had been aboard the Tranquility, before he'd ever arrived on the fleet, but that was an entirely different world ~~and dw game.~~]

Did you have your own room when you was small?

[Ah, so this child is from the future? At least, he's never heard of a mother having a 'boyfriend' before. Whatever a 'boyfriend' is.

He isn't sure how to answer Takeshi's question though. When he was a child, he had stayed in the same room as the rest of his family until his father had died. He'd found that rather cozy and enjoyed sleeping with his sisters, nestled between them. But then he'd been given away and the place he was made to stay wasn't exactly a 'room' so much as a place to put him. Kondou's mother had hated him from the beginning and so he'd been stuck where he'd be the least likely to be seen.]

Mm... yes, I suppose I did for a brief while. But I bet Takeshi-kun's room is much better than mine was.

[He blushes a bit.]

A little! Captain's get real nice beds, I guess...!

I feel kinda bad having it...

[He's never had a bed like that; the quirks of being a captain is nice and all, but he feels like he doesn't really deserve it if nobody else gets rooms like that.

He leads the man to — hatches? Hatches. Metal, angled hatches that lead downward.

... Welcome to the bunk room entries.]

You should never feel bad for having nice things.

[Especially if such things come with rank, whether earned or not.]

If you are our captain, it's only natural that you have the nicest things.

[He smiles even though his words ring hollow to him. To anyone else, they probably sound chipper and convincing.

And here they are at...metal trapdoors? Okita blinks and taps at it.]

So this is how we get in?

I know... I guess I still do anyways.

[A little blushy, he plays it off a bit, turning toward the hatch.]

You just gotta pop it open and go down the ladder! Like this -

[It gives a little creak as he pulls up on the hatch; it's a nifty little thing, a descent down into a very clean, well-kept room. It's very much ready for Okito to live in it, with its little made bed and the uniform hanging in the closet. The rooms are cool; Takeshi really likes the set-up.]

It's kind of... empty! But we can decorate it, f'you want!

[He watches as his tiny captain demonstrates what to do, nodding his head. Then he leans over to look down into the room. A ladder that goes straight down to a room that is clean, albeit spartan, and very much made of metal like the rest of this ship. He already misses the warmth of tatami.]

Oh, don't worry about that. I never had much use for decorations before.

[He smiles and hunches down next to Takeshi.]

But if you find something you think I'd like, I'll be sure to put it in a special place down there.

I'll do my best to find you something nice!!

Do you like Japanese festival stuff? 'Cus you dress like someone who likes festivals.

[Or a samurai but THAT'S JUST SILLY HAHA.]

Hm? Well, I suppose I do, but this is how I dress every day when I'm not working. Is it unusual to you?

[Takeshi rubs his chin, thoughtful.]

Yeah, kinda! I only ever saw'd people in samurai movies dress up like that... And anime!!

[OH SHIT WAIT, MAYBE YOU'RE AN OTAKU OR SOMETHING.]

D'you just really like samurai and anime?

[He laughs.]

Well, I am a samurai, but I don't know what 'anime' is. Is it some sort of picture book?

[Ermmmm. How to explain...]

They're pictures -- drawlings! But they move!

[Move? He's thoroughly confused by that, but asking a child to explain the intricacies of motion pictures is probably not a topic for his first real day in space. He blinks, and then smiles apologetically.]

I'm from long ago, so that doesn't make much sense to me. People have told me I'm from far in the past for most people here.

Oh! That's okay. I'll find you some good cartoons someday! Then we can watch it together.

[Okita smiles, and puts the questions out of his mind for now. Instead, he reaches out his pinky finger.]
