[Finwë is very careful with using one hand to use the communicator since there is small sleeping Elf child asleep against him.

There is sorrow in his gaze and in his smile, his hushed tone is heavy.]

It seems I have fallen asleep for a time though I am not sure for how long. When I woke, it seems one of my grandsons have reverted in age- [He looked down at the sleeping Elfling with a fond smile before continuing softly.] -something which I cannot say I can complain about though I hope he does not suffer.

[He shifts Fingon slightly, not wanting to wake him.]

Have any here fallen asleep and then woken with new memories? It seems almost as if it were a dream but I felt as if I had experienced it so vividly.

[He paused, making sure Fingon hadn't woken up before giving a smile, his voice very quiet.]

And please, no loud noises. I would hate to wake my grandson.

[Once Fingon is awake and with another of his grandsons, Finwë took the chance to get up and stretch, to see if anything had changed and to check on the others in the crew.]

I hear it happens frequently. Is something wrong?

What I remember was- not pleasant- my time after my death was painful. [He shifted the sleeping Elfling in his arms when Fingon stirred, shhing him to sleep gently.]

How do you fare, Obi-Wan? I am not sure how long I slept.

[ Wait. ]

Quite some time. Nearly a month, I'd say.

You . . . died?

Such a short time- I experienced many thousands of years in that time.

[He made sure Fingon was still asleep before continuing.]

Yes, I died. I knew that would be my fate and in my sleep, I remember being welcomed by the great spirit who looks over those halls where our souls go after death. I remember speaking to my first wife who had faded and I promised her a chance at life once more, she seemed so real once more.

[ He stares at that. ]

You were in the . . . afterlife?

[He nodded, glad that Fingon was still fast asleep.]

I was. It is not a terrible place, though I would be separated from my family.

[ It's not often he's at a loss for words. ]

What was it like?

[He's quiet for a few moments to attempt to put what he saw and experienced into words.]

It's...dark and shadowed, for the most part, filled with grief but also with potential happiness. I remember darkness at first and it gave me a chance to ponder. After that time, I walked along great columns of black with Mandos, the being who rules the Halls.

But then I was free to wander, to see the other Elves who resided in the halls who either have not been allowed to be reincarnated yet or chose not to be. The other halls are lined with tapestries depicting the history of the outside world. They are made by the great Weaver, Mando's consort, who was warm and welcoming.

[ It's so hard to believe. ]

But - that's impossible. How can you remember the afterlife and still be here?

I do not know. I experienced many thousands of years, watching history unfold from the Halls, I remember it all. And from what my grandsons have told me, it seems very realistic for a mere dream.

[ He's quiet for a few moments. ]

How do you feel about coming back here? It must have been hard.

It is...difficult and painful. I had been parted from my first wife for thousands of years and it made me happy to be reunited with her once more.

But coming here I can be with my grandsons once more, something I had missed in my time in the Halls. I treasure this time with them even more now.

[ It still seems unimaginable. ]

Your peace of mind is strong indeed.

You said I have been asleep for nearly a month. How have you fared, Obi-Wan?

[ How to explain dealing with a younger Anakin and Padme. ]

Maglor is coming for my grandson soon to have some time with him, we should have tea if you are free.

[He wants to babysit! He loves taking care of all the children, ok.]

Ah . . . this seems like a time best spent with family.

[ Which he is not. ]

[ He knows he's stumbling but even months of talking to Finwe had dulled the impulse to retreat. ]
