[docking at the hotel had been something of a godsend. Originally he was going to attempt to cook himself, but with all of the restaurants at the hotel available, he opted to choose one of them instead. Likely for the best, because he wasn't the greatest cook.

He'd done his research, however, and the dinner - while nothing overly fancy - still had some traditional Christmas and Hanukkah foods - or at least, as close as they could get to them, all things considered. He tried, okay.

But it was a holiday dinner for the four of them, and that was the most important part. It was a first for their family, after all]

[ She just smiles as innocently as she can manage. ]

And not showing? Perish the thought.

There'll be blanket forts and everything.

For our party or theirs? I doubt the teenage population at the school would be as receptive.

We're obviously the cool professors.

Obviously.

[ Charles takes a sip of his wine, his expression soft. It feels strange to make plans. Equally strange to have that sense of hope they'll come to pass. ]

[ It's still odd for her, to think that she's back at the mansion, back with Hank and Charles and the kids, but... She can't imagine anywhere else she wants to be. ]

Do they know when your birthday is?

[ He blinks. ]

I'm not sure.

I'm going to tell them.

[ Charles gives her a pained look. ]

Must you?

[ All she can do is grin. ]

They're going to bake you cakes.

A joyous occasion indeed.

Can you imagine Scott in the kitchen?

Don't pick on the poor boy. He tries his best. When he's not stealing my cars.

He's good at teamwork, I'll give him that. He could even be a good leader one day.

Yes . . . he certainly could be.

[ At least from what little he gleaned from Logan. ]

Jean too, really. I think Peter and Kurt like following their leaders too much, though.

[ Hah, Kurt. She purses her lips. ]

I think Kurt is still very new to a lot of things.

[ He notices that and pauses, wondering if it's worth bringing up but that is Raven's call to make. ]
