[docking at the hotel had been something of a godsend. Originally he was going to attempt to cook himself, but with all of the restaurants at the hotel available, he opted to choose one of them instead. Likely for the best, because he wasn't the greatest cook.

He'd done his research, however, and the dinner - while nothing overly fancy - still had some traditional Christmas and Hanukkah foods - or at least, as close as they could get to them, all things considered. He tried, okay.

But it was a holiday dinner for the four of them, and that was the most important part. It was a first for their family, after all]

I don't think the Fleet could manage otherwise.

[He gestures to one of the plates with a fork.]

You ought to try one of the latkes. Or whatever Hank has managed to spirit up that seems like them.

[athru]

It would explode from the inside out.

[ Still, she follows his lead, taking one for her own plate and humming curiously. ]

Promise they're good?

I promise. But you could be a little more courageous, considering it's just food.

It's the best food we've had in a long time, too.

[ She helps herself all the same, shaking her head. ]

It looks better than what I used to eat as a kid too.

[exothermia]

Considering how all you talk about is how much you liked ice cream as a child...

[This is an exaggeration, but it did form a fairly big part of their conversation that one time.]

That was one time, Erik.

[ She just gives him a dirty look. Jerk. ]

Was it...?

[He sounds so pensive, as he eats another latke. Not at all teasing her.]

I'm going to kick you.

[ And she nudges him under the table just to make the point clear. ]

I'll survive.

We'll see about that.
