[Arthur hadn't actually been awake the last time he'd appeared on one of these ships, but at least there'd been a bit of forewarning this time. Still, he was left blinking with surprise at the fluttering confetti as he appeared on the bridge of, apparently, his new ship.]

Well, that's... festive.

[There's a guy lounging about in a chair at the communications station, looking exceptionally bored. An expression that doesn't really change all that much when Arthur arrives. But at least he gets a half-arsed wave- but hey, at least he (appears) to have an English accent. ]

And here's me thinking they stopped actively sending people to this shite-hole.

[Brushes the confetti off of his clothes, getting a good look around before looking back at the man. Well, there's a cheery greeting. Does like how much he's been hearing that accent here though.]

Obviously not. Maybe this time they'll give a bloke time to settle in before moving me off to wherever next.

Oh, wow, someone new showed up. That's rare.

[She happened to be passing by, and she stares at the confetti as it flies.]

[Though Crowley doesn't get up, he does show a little more interest.]

Kidnapped, yes, but not into space.

However, in this case, I was referring to the ship I was brought to just prior to this one.

There must be better ways to transport people.

[Brushes the confetti from his hair and shoulders with a little huff.]

I'm Arthur Kirkland. It looks like I'm your new crewmate for the time being.

Yeah, if you're expecting them to be respectful and kind, you should let go of that idea now.

[A shrug.]

Opal. What's your augment?

I think the fact that I was kidnapped in the first place tells me enough to know that.

[Touches the lump it makes. Will get used to it some day.]

Engineer.

You would think that would make it obvious, yeah! And yet.

[She glances at that gesture, fighting off a grimace. It's still strange for her to think about something new and foreign like that in her head.]

Nice. Pretty sure you're the first one in a while.

Huh. Another new person already?

[She waves a hand, and a gust of wind sweeps around, gathering all the loose confetti into a neat pile.]

Sounds like my work will be cut out for me, unless you had someone with existing knowledge about spaceship engines.

[Whiiiich he doubts. What would be the chances, after all?]

I think our captain is, like, a tech genius? But I'm not sure about spaceship engineering, you'd probably have to ask him.

I mean, so far most of our augments have been pretty useless, which is nice. The ship flies itself so we don't really need a pilot, nobody's been seriously injured lately so the medical bay isn't a big deal, and hopefully we don't have an engineering crisis anytime soon.

Looks like. Arthur Kirkland. Useful talent you have there.

[Pleased to see bits of magic, oh yes.]

[She never knows whether people go by first or last names.]

Well, I know a bit about field medicine, so if there are any emergencies I might be able to help there. I'll admit my... natural knowledge? about engines is a little outdated, but I've dabbled.

[Strange name, but maybe her parents were hippies? Has heard stranger.]

... Well, not many people using it is still better than all the people I've heard telling me that magic doesn't exist.

[Huffs in irritation, but not at her.]

I've gotten that one all the time. People get very stubborn about it.

Right? I swear, next time someone tries to tell me that, I'm just going to break out Fire spells instead.

I'm crossing my fingers we won't have any emergencies that would require someone who knows field medicine, so hopefully that won't ever come up.

[A shrug.]

I bet you could find a book about engineering somewhere in the hotel. It's pretty huge.

Hopefully, yes. They're good skills to have, but even better not to need.

That, I'll have to look around for. Though I'm not much familiar with this hotel you mentioned.

Yeah, you wouldn't have had a chance to check it out if you just got off the Marsiva... I would go while you still can, though. It's the best place we've been in ages.

Well that's one I haven't heard before. I don't think Italian jails or Spanish ships really compare much.
