ᴛʜᴇʏ'ʟʟ ɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴀ ᴄɪᴛʏ ᴀғᴛᴇʀ ᴜs ( ᴏᴘᴇɴ )
Who: steve rogers circa civil war + you, yes you
Broadcast: nope
Action: various;
When: throughout january
[ new year, new memories and what begins as one monstrous headache.
it takes a couple of hours to sort through everything that's new, to make sense of a kaleidoscope of memories, images and sounds. at first, he starts writing it all down, lagos, the sokovia accords, the UN, black panther.
Only the dry details and nothing of what starts to weight down on his shoulders, faces and names that inspire a heavy, intimate, terrible sort of pain.
And so an avoidance of a sort begins that lasts through the two days the new year. Hours upon hours spend on the library aboard the Iskaulit, reading books and making nothing of them. It's an odd sight, Steve Rogers in one of the corners of the room, staring at a book and randomly picking up a notepad and writing something down ( another detail that comes up, scott lang or spiderman ) and then staring at the notepad only to go back and stare at the book.
He might also be found at odd hours at the gym; evidently, taking out his burdens on a punching bag, seemingly lost in thought even as takes out what seems to be a world of trouble on the thing.
It will take these two days of isolation before those of the fleet start seeing steve rogers off the Iskaulit. He'll make a return to the Starkstruck, though this return, too, will be a reclusive matter one will have to actively seek him to find him in the weaponry or otherwise, in his room. ]

[ her sudden appearance makes him tense for less than a second but then he calms down and looks up, smiling. for all that she manages to catch him off-guard, he feels that he had missed her, even though no time had passed at all. ]
Peter?
[ they've never really been on a first-name basis. ]

[ it made things that much easier. he looks at his list and shakes his head. ]
I know Spider-man. We met, once. I think he's a friend of Tony's.
[ he does dare ask, ]
You mean - there was more than one of him at the same time?
no subject
Their time didn't overlapped. One of them knew of a version of me from his world. You know, because I'm famous and all. [She smiles, but he did seem to think it was cool he was meeting one of the X-Men.] There were two of me most of the time I was there though so overlapping can happen.

[ one of the oddest things he learned here, really. it seems that every time he thinks nothing can surprise him anymore, something else happens and he finds out that he was sourly mistaken. ]
One of them was more or less like me, the other - not so much.
[ the winter soldier. fate is a cruel thing. ]

[ it's weird, that the man had a different name altogether; but then, when he met Bucky on the fleet, the man was known as 'Winter'. That seems to be a motif among Winter Soldiers, no matter who they are. ]
I'm glad he had you.
[ if he were anything like Bucky, he was probably a bit of a lost soul. friends can help with that, or at least that's what he'd like to believe. ]

[ he smiles, if that's what you call running. ]
We didn't talk that much but he left an impression. I guess we never know who'll do that, right?
no subject
That's true. I know Winn left one on me in our first talk. Not that I'm comparing me and Winn to you and Sam. [Or her and Orion to her and Winn. But since she's on the subject...]
Though I did meet Peggy when I was dressed as you.

She never liked Cap as much as the others.
[ it was steve rogers that Peggy believed in, never Cap. it's what made her so special to him. ]

[ he frowns; how to explain this? this kaleidoscope of information and feelings? ]
At first, Cap was meant for propaganda, selling war bonds, touring America. Peggy always thought I was meant for more than that.
[ even when steve himself couldn't see it. a lab rat or a dancing monkey - Peggy had offered him the third option. He thinks he was a fool not to see it; as a woman, agent Carter probably needed to create and mold third options for herself for years. ]
After the war - I was gone but from the little I know, Cap returned to be all about entertainment. She had to put up with a lot. It was a different world - I think it made her resent Cap even more.

Also, she can't really believe she's admitting this to him. She's going to blush or take it back if she thinks about it very hard.]
But you are definitely more than a war bonds model, so she was right.
[She tilts her head.] How long had it been for this Peggy since your disappearance?

[ it helps, to hear it wasn't all just commercials and a radio program and a mural on a wall in sokovia. he reaches over, squeezes her hand a bit in gratitude. ]
Two years, I think. Maybe a little more.
[ and only a few days since he had lost her, as far as the memories go but he banishes the very thought. ]

Are the two of you together now?

[ there was a time, some months ago, when they didn't discuss that aspect of their connection. It was all seemingly professional back then. Times changed, however and when asked, Steve offers the truth and nothing else before adding: ]
I'm very lucky, for that.
