[ Kubo wakes up with a jerk, fumbling around before he realizes it's not dark. The fire isn't lit and — this wasn't the cave he grew up in. Groping around, Kubo felt the solid presence of his shamisen, the two strings intact and breathes a sigh of relief. Then he carefully slips off the bed, slinging it over his back. With his one eye, he looked around. And pinches himself. ]

Okay. Not dead. Where am I? This isn't the Heavens . . . is it?

[ He had been sure everything had been settled, but Kubo hadn't exactly had time to learn the exact nature of what lingers above. ]

Yeah.

They're — They're all I have now.

[ahappylie]

If you care, then you will do them justice. Trust in your skill and your heart. I'm sure you will tell them all beautifully.

[He smiles faintly.]

And soon you will have much more than just stories.

[shamisens]

[ He touches his shamisen, the two special strings still attached. ]

What would I have?

[ahappylie]

All of us. Your crewmates, the rest of the Fleet.

We're all in this together, especially people like us who come from a far and distant time.

[shamisens]

[ It's too early for Kubo to get attached to people. Especially since he knows how quickly they can be gone. But his memories remain and he wouldn't give those up, no matter how painful they could be. ]

Does everyone on the Fleet believe that?

[ahappylie]

[Weeeellll....not everyone, but most everyone. Handsome Jack locked him in the toilet when he first got here, so who knows.]

Most do. At least most of the people I've met have.

[shamisens]

I guess I'm not ready yet.

[ahappylie]

It takes time.

[To heal from whatever trauma he's undergone. Perhaps the loss of his family? It seems he's still reeling from that.]

And there's no rush. You won't be meeting your new crewmates for awhile yet, and after that you'll have all the time you need to settle in.

[shamisens]

Yeah. I have a lot of time on my hands now.

[ahappylie]

We all do now. But that just means we can pick up new things.

Like babysitting.

[He winks.]

I could use a hand with that, if you're up for it.

[shamisens]

Iiii think I'll pass.

[ahappylie]

Oh come now. It would be a whole new experience for you! Isn't that exciting?

[shamisens]

No. Not even a little.

[ahappylie]

[He laughs a little and waves a candy stick at the camera.]

You better be careful. The people who control the Fleet might hear you and stick you with babysitting duty now.

[shamisens]

They better not.

[ahappylie]

Now I can't wait to see Kubo-kun with a little five year old clinging to his hand and a pack of four year olds around him.

[shamisens]

[ His eye narrows. ]

You'll be waiting a while.

[ahappylie]

I'll be here for awhile. [aka his teasing way of saying "You're not going to be alone here, don't worry."]

I can be patient.

[shamisens]
