Yo. Eithan here. I decided I wanted to play some music, so I rented this room for a few days! Figured I'd give my guitar some more attention than it's been gettin' lately, you know? But then I figured, why stop there?

[ He grins, mischievous and excited, and turns the camera around to show an array of other stringed instruments - some look pretty easy to figure out, and usable by being with human-esque features! Others? Not so much. Like, what the fuck is that one in the corner with the tubes jutting out of it? We just don't know. ]

Don't those look fun? [ He laughs a little. ] I have no idea how this is gonna go or what I'm gettin' myself into, but we'll see!

[ Aaaand, camera's turned back to Eithan now. ]

If you wanna come on by and hang out, maybe try a few yourself or bring your own, that's totally cool. I'd love the company. And if you can't make it? Well, I'll be recordin' my attempts and stuff. And I'll leave the channel open so people can listen in if they want. You know, talk and comment and shit. Why not?

[ He picks up his guitar, thinks for a second... And then starts playing - nothing she'd be familiar with, since it's a song from his own world, but easygoing and clearly catchy nonetheless. ]

Pretty sure there's one in the same store you're checking out. Not that I've been there, like, every day.

[She has absolutely done exactly that.

When he starts playing, she stays silent so she can listen, only speaking up again once he's done.]

He grins at the compliment - a little sheepish, but mostly just happy to be playing for someone who clearly appreciates music. ]

Yeah. It was gettin' really popular before I got yanked here. Wonder if it's still everywhere or not? Heh.

Hopefully it's not one of those that hangs on forever until you get sick of hearing it and hate it whenever it starts.

Anyways. You want me to head over so I can return the favor?

Goddess, I hope not. I don't wanna end up hatin' it, it's too good.

[True to her word, it doesn't take her long before she's heading into the area, looking around for him.]

[ Wide-eyed, Kubo takes it all the instruments. ]

What are all of those? What's a guitar? Can I borrow some?

[ Eithan chuckles. ]

I have no freakin' idea what the others are. They're alien... whatevers. But this? Is a guitar.

[ He holds up his ~~baby~~ guitar, smiling, and plays a single chord. You know, just to provide a small example~]

And yeah, sure, you can borrow whatever you want! The resort thingy is rentin' out some instruments. Most of 'em I know less that nothin' about. And hell, if you don't wanna go through them, feel free to meet up with me. You can use any of these I picked up. I'm just playin' around, after all.

[ Kubo pulls out his shamisen, so he can compare it to the guitar, a smile on his face. ]

I can't leave the ship yet but maybe later.

[ He lights up when he sees the shamisen, clearly interested, and smiles all the more. ]

Yeah, we should definitely get together later. That'd be awesome. So you're new here, huh?

[ He nods. ]

My name is Kubo. I'm supposed to wait to go to another ship?

Yeah, people are pretty much stuck on the Marsiva until a certain point in the week. Then they end up on another ship.

I'm Eithan. Nice to meet you. And for what it's worth? Welcome to the fleet.

Thank you. I'm not really sure what to make of it yet.

[ The people were nice, albeit it was strange talking to them from a distance. Kubo has never made any real close connections. ]

It's not too bad. I mean, there's definitely rough patches. And gettin' dragged all the way here pretty much sucks, too. But the people are pretty great. And I've gotta admit, seein' a bunch of different worlds and planets and stuff? Pretty awesome.

[ He's idly, quietly, plucking at strings while they talk. You know, something to do with his hands, and all. ]

I've only ever talked to the people in the village.

[ And even then, he didn't talk to them all that much. He would perform, get his money and leave. ]

I think we might have enough people in the fleet to make up a village. A really small one, sure, but still. We've got stuff covered, and we work together alright. At least from what I've seen since bein' here.

[ Pause. ] It's sure as hell no replacement for home, though. Not sayin' that. Just, it could be worse.

[ Kubo shakes his head. ]

This is fine. I don't really have much of a home anyway.

I see I am not the only one attracted to the various instruments here. Have you had much of a chance to try them?

Not till now, and I'm still tryin' to figure out how to work some of 'em... They're definitely for people with different, uh... biology. [ Classy, Eithan. ] But some are kinda similar to some strings or woodwinds? If you squint a little. Have you tried any yet?

Like you, I have been experimenting. [ Maglor agrees ] I do better with the stringed instruments, but the harp was always my first love, although I manage other things well enough.

Harp? Nice. My sister tried that for a while. Never was patient enough to keep up practice, though.

[ He gives a short sigh - mock exasperation... but the fondness is clear. ]

Not that I'm one to talk about patience, but music's different, I guess.

[ Maglor chuckles softly ] I suppose it is not the easiest to learn. Does your sister play another instrument instead? Some instruments call specifically to people.

Nah, she decided her other studies were more worth her time. She sings, though. But it takes a lot of bribin' to get her to do it.

What about you? What other instruments can you play?

That is a pity! But perhaps one day...

Flute and drum, tambor and horn, although woodwind has never truly spoken to me, and percussion is more my brother Caranthir's taste than mine. I do better with stringed instruments, mostly. Yourself?
