[For once, Ochako's not using voice or video, bursting with energy; instead it's a simple text entry, no fluff or even an emoticon.]

does anybody have something happy they're willing to share

like, something good that happened to them, or a nice story

it's the new year, right? i wanna start fresh with good things.

[Ochako's sort of taking over the Starstruck kitchen, and making a bit of a mess of it, though unintentionally- she's all out of sorts, things are floating when she doesn't want them to, and her attempts at making something as simple as cake batter are not going as planned. Crewmates might have noticed that she's been quieter than usual since after Christmas, and it's apparently hit a breaking point.]

I know a man who keeps a veritable zoo in his back garden.

Perhaps more like a menagerie than a zoo. I don't know where the line is that delineates the difference. Either way, there was a koala.

[ Kubo switches over to video, placing the paper in the middle before taking his seat. As he plays, the paper moves, turning into a woman and a man. Stars fill the room, spinning onward. ]

There was a samurai lord. Brave and strong, he embarked on a quest. Slowly, he gained powerful magical items. But the Heavens were scared, so they sent deadly warriors to stop him.

[ The woman swings her sword at the samurai and they clash. ]

The earth shook. The heavens quaked. But over time, love grew. But such a union was looked down upon. They were parted, lost. They forgot themselves. But they never forgot that moment when their swords touched.

And one day, despite it all, they found each other. They touched and they were happy.

[He's not misreading that name, but just to clarify-]

Well, this really great thing happened to me one time. I was in a really bad place, and my friend came by and showed me how to make one of her favorite foods.

[Eugene doesn't read too much into the syntax. If pressed, he'd blame a lot of that on his crew - both Dave and Isaac have that unpunctuated, no-caps ramble that roams between poetic and completely inscrutable. But the request itself . . .that gives him pause. He's not sitting on any cute anecdotes that spring to mind, but there is something else tucked into his pocket almost perpetually, where it has been since they left their last stop, and the more he just sits on it the more it feels . . . wrong.

Still, it takes an hour until his conscience gets the better of him and he replies, keeping the tone as cool as he can manage for how irrationally nervy the thought makes him.]

[It's a friggin' Christmas miracle. She almost bursts into tears right there in the kitchen for the whole crew to see. She doesn't, somehow, but- after months away from home, away from her family and everyone she's ever known, surrounded by strangers who of course have become friends, but still no one from her world who might have shared memories, shared experiences-

[She doesn't care that it's Aizawa, by far the most intimidating teacher at UA. She wouldn't care if it were Mineta at this point. She's just grateful to not be so alone.]

[ He stops, and the paper folds itself back to normal. ]

[SIGH......he doesn't want to do this, but she probably needs the reassurance. So he snaps a quick photo of himself, sure to get the Marvisa's observation window in the background and sends it over to her.]

[Not that he thinks it's very likely that much is getting past Peggy. Regardless, he's in a shuttle and heading over after a few minutes, and barring Ochako waiting for him in the cargo bay goes ahead and makes his way up to the kitchen - the place most likely to be kind of a mess, he imagines.]

Is that something you learned how to do, or could you always do it? Oh, or is it a magic instrument?

[That's probably a terrible thing to say, considering how nobody should want anyone else to be abducted, but she can't help feeling it.]

A little of both. My mother taught me at the start and I picked up the rest. The shamisen is normal though.
