[For once, Ochako's not using voice or video, bursting with energy; instead it's a simple text entry, no fluff or even an emoticon.]

does anybody have something happy they're willing to share

like, something good that happened to them, or a nice story

it's the new year, right? i wanna start fresh with good things.

[Ochako's sort of taking over the Starstruck kitchen, and making a bit of a mess of it, though unintentionally- she's all out of sorts, things are floating when she doesn't want them to, and her attempts at making something as simple as cake batter are not going as planned. Crewmates might have noticed that she's been quieter than usual since after Christmas, and it's apparently hit a breaking point.]

[May as well keep it simple.]

[ Kubo switches over to video, placing the paper in the middle before taking his seat. As he plays, the paper moves, turning into a woman and a man. Stars fill the room, spinning onward. ]

There was a samurai lord. Brave and strong, he embarked on a quest. Slowly, he gained powerful magical items. But the Heavens were scared, so they sent deadly warriors to stop him.

[ The woman swings her sword at the samurai and they clash. ]

The earth shook. The heavens quaked. But over time, love grew. But such a union was looked down upon. They were parted, lost. They forgot themselves. But they never forgot that moment when their swords touched.

And one day, despite it all, they found each other. They touched and they were happy.

[Oh, wow. She's so utterly smitten by the display that she even neglects to switch herself back to text.]

Ah...! It's beautiful!

[ He stops, and the paper folds itself back to normal. ]

Is that something you learned how to do, or could you always do it? Oh, or is it a magic instrument?

[She's so fascinated.]

A little of both. My mother taught me at the start and I picked up the rest. The shamisen is normal though.

[Ahhh, it is a shamisen! She'd thought as much, but she's not an expert with instruments.]

What's a Quirk?

A Quirk is what we call superpowers where I'm from, or unusual traits that make someone different. Like, super strength, or a big flexible tail, or the ability to talk to animals!

Or a power that lets you fold paper by playing an instrument, even.

I didn't know there were so many people who had powers.

[ After all, having powers were a Heavenly trait. ]

What can yours do?

I think there's a pretty good number of people around here with special abilities of some kind. You should ask around.

Oh, and my power is Zero Gravity! I can erase gravity around things I touch, so they get lighter or float.

Wow. So you make things float around? Can you make anything float?

As long as it's not too heavy, yeah.

Can you show me?

Oh, sure. Let me see...

[She pokes around briefly, then props up the communicator and moves in front of it, holding a spoon. with a concentrated tap, she lets it go, and it begins to float upwards, free from her fingers.]

[ There's something fascinating about seeing someone else display powers. Not that Kubo's ever considered himself to be the only one, but he was certainly the only one his age. ]

Woah. That's cool. It's a very useful power.

I think so, yeah! It's not as flashy as a lot of powers I know about, but I like it. Buuuut I'm also kind if biased.

Because it's yours, right?

[ Kubo loved his powers. He loved experimenting with them, trying new things. Quite often, he wasn't always in control but he never minded that. ]

Yeah... I mean, I've had it for so long. It would be weird to imagine myself with any other ability.

I'd definitely feel the same way if my magic changed like that.

I guess if someone had a really strong ability, it's not unusual to feel a little jealous... like, ooooh! They make being strong look so easy!

Do you know anyone like that? What are some of the powers you've seen?

Well, I'm going to school for hero training back home, so my whole class is full of super strong people! Our teachers are strong, too. At the top of our class is Todoroki-kun- he can control fire and ice- and Bakugou, he can make his sweat explode. And Deku, of course- he's so strong, he wrecked a huuuuge robot with one punch!

[ He wonders what that must be like. Meeting kids his own age who are just like him. Having friends, being able to play with them. It seems so strange compared to his own life but Kubo has seen enough of the village to believe in it. ]

Ah... I guess I am.

[Lately she hasn't felt very lucky, but it's true that she's been pretty fortunate throughout her life. Knowing people with other Quirks is just a normal thing for her; she'd grown up since early childhood with other kids who had powers, and she got to attend the best school in Japan in order to train those powers with other incredible students. Even this place isn't the worst ever.

She can't imagine being alone with her ability.]
