Seventh Blight - voice/action

Who: Riona and you
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Anywhere on the Iskaulit
When: Tonight

[It hadn't struck Riona right away, what today was. In the morning, she'd gone about her usual business, just like any other day. In fact, she may never have realized it at all, if she hadn't just idly thought about it. It hit her rather hard, leaving her almost breathless for a moment.

Today marks one year since she arrived in the fleet.

A lot of emotions come with it, ones she struggles with throughout the rest of the day. It's what eventually drives her to the Iskaulit, fighting with her thoughts as Kiter meanders alongside of her, enjoying the exercise. Riona finally decides to maybe try the network and get her thoughts out that way, rather than just mulling over them.]

I find myself observing the one year mark of my arrival to the fleet. [She falls quiet a moment, lips quirked to one side.] It's been quite a year. To those who have observed this anniversary for themselves: did you find yourselves feeling rather mixed about the whole thing? Personally, I can't quite figure out how I feel about it, quite honestly.

Maybe I should simply accept that, that there aren't going to be much in the way of words. [A huff.] Maybe what I need more than anything is a distraction. I've spent the better part of the day chewing it all over in my mind. If anyone has an idea for such, I welcome suggestions. Alternatively, if company is wanted, I'm walking with my dog around the Iskaulit.

In a sense. It depends on how much patience you have, I think, and how well these places end up treating you. And how bored or homesick you are. And whether life sucks for you at home. [Basically, it's different for everyone.]

But under any of those circumstances, once you've made it past the first year the rest kind of blurs. Anyone capable of adjusting has already made the best of a bad hand, so.

It helps that you're not alone in what you're going through. It's really hard not to see people from home, but...you do tend to make friends here, as well.

[She grins a little.]

Before I spent my first year here, I ended up spending a year in another place. Wasn't quite as harmless as this one.

Yeah. From the sounds of things, Paradisa is not a fun place at all. I know less about Exsilium. There are a handful of others.

Compared to just about every place I've heard of, this is a quiet vacation.

[Give it another week.]

Nothing wrong with complaining, though. Mutual venting sessions are therapeutic, trust me.

Hmm, well... we weren't all drifting around in space, at least. Adstring was supposedly the site of an accident that cracked the universe, and people and objects kept kind of slipping in by accident. But that also included some pretty powerful spirits who weren't too crazy about sharing the space with us.

Some of them were nice, and some of them just liked messing with our heads. And the last one we dealt with... wanted to kill everyone and chew on their souls for all eternity. He nearly succeeded.

[There's enough distance from Diereadh now that the events are just a story, but lord those last days were dark.]

Not that we know of, anyway. And yeah. Took us a while, but common enemy and all that.

We got to go home after that. Turns out he was mostly responsible for all our escape attempts failing.
namisan: (what's this button do)

[She gives an amused snort.] That's about the size of it. I've already spent more time here than I did there. But you know, it's helped me deal with this place, at least. We haven't had to deal with demons, and we always have food and water. And entertainment.

Which doesn't make me want to leave any less, mind.

I'll drink to that.
