suspicious mage is suspicious

Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Windrose
When: now

[Look, someone is actually taking it easily, making notes and recording everything that happened lately so he can go through it all later and pick thing apart.]

I'm probably looking too much into this but-

[He shifts, wincing slightly as he sits more upright.]

We're here for entertainment right? Could Atroma have staged that attack? It doesn't seem like they gave a damn during the attack and, I mean, the Marsiva wasn't touched, was it? What would be more entertaining for people than seeing us all in real danger?

If they're willing to just kidnap us, they wouldn't be above this!

Fair enough. [Especially since she has no power over him to make him do anything.]

And for what it's worth, I do tend to think everything we run into is staged by the Atroma. [Even if she sounded more skeptical initially. Skeptical is kind of a default setting.] They pick the flight plan. Even if they weren't controlling the other fleets they probably knew we'd be running into them.

Sure. They seem to hold most of the cards though. Hard to make people pay for things when you can't even find them.

You sound so much like me back in my first multidimensional abduction by mysterious overlords. Find a way to keep that. [She's been feeling jaded about making the attempts.]

This is round two. I was at the other one for a year too. Or...possibly seven years. It's complicated.

It's a pretty common story here. I'm almost more surprised running into someone who came straight from home. It wasn't like that in the prison.

Still kind of am, but for that place it was the theme.

I guess you'd have to ask our captors that. My last ones said rehabilitation for our crimes. The current ones claim reality show ratings.

I think I can excuse you for that, yeah. I'm not sure what the criminal type is exactly other than someone who commits crimes, but there were a lot of people who didn't belong there. I think it was just the theme of the place more than any real purpose. What do you think a criminal type would be like?

While I'm sure many negative things can and have been said about me, those don't seem like likely contenders, no.

The crimes were all without context. For example, killing someone as a soldier in war was counted as murder.

Well, there you go. They also didn't care about scale or impact either. Jaywalking equals murder equals littering equals rape.

I never thought of it as a sensible place. There were a lot of good people there and I don't regret my time. But it shouldn't have been there. A lot like the fleet even if it's hard to actually wish for that at this point.

Mmm, one of the wardens we had was finally convinced of the first part and imprisoned its engineers in the prison for kidnapping. Didn't actually get us home though.

Well, I ended up here in someone else's prison, but I guess you could still say I got away. I'll pass on the going home part though.
