Tell me about it. Anyway, I proposed and she accepted. So one of the gods sent his snake to kill me. If I was dead, she'd marry my friend by default.

[It's not true, not completely. He's left out important parts, parts he has zero inclination to share with anyone. ]

And you killed it, right?

The snake? Nope. It killed me.

[Oh but hey, food's here! He offers Riku a smile of thanks, before trying it. ]

You know, that's pretty good!

[ EMBARRASSED... how do you respond to compliments?? ]

O-oh, thanks. It's--you know, it's not much, but it's edible, you know? Maybe if we ever get a cook...

But until then, this is really good.

[He smiles, he's being absolutely honest and genuine. ]

The trick's gonna be getting everyone to eat...

Maybe a set meal time? That might work. It'd get everyone together, too.
