[ if you haven't seen riku around the last few days, don't worry!
you aren't the only one. since they've arrived on the planet, riku has made it his job to be mostly unseen; he's stalked around and observed all there is to observe. he has to gauge any and every threat, and it's a good thing he's hyper-vigilant, or this would be really hard. but three days afterward, riku starts to show his face around the ship again, if only slightly. a flicker of him in the galley here, a moment in the armory there.
but it's finally a day of rest, and riku looks exhausted as he flips some crumbled-minced protein in a frying pan. finally, a stovetop--he's been dying for one.
mmm, beef protein. ]
[ the best thing that comes out of wandering around the planet is that riku has finally found tools.
so you may be walking by the armory and find that the door is open, and riku's on the floor. and riku is whittling away at a small piece of wood. he's trying to still his shaky hands, and he's halfway through carving a little orb. it's like he's cutting the figure out of the wood itself. it's definitely not done, he's shaping the underside of it now, but he looks ultimately focused, even when it's put down and he glares at his shaking hand.
his tremor is gonna be the end of him. how is he going to make a clocktower with shakiness? ]
armory; you can't keep me away from this

Come in. [ thankfully, he wasn't carving--just sanding. ]
no subject
Hey. No exciting reveals today, just checking in on you.
no subject
[ it's a quiet jest; he goes about, sanding again and blowing off the dust. his pants are pretty much covered in sawdust. but after a moment or two, he counters-- ]
Why do you check up on me?
no subject
[he... scratches under his chin, his expression a little exaggerated in mock-contemplation.]
Something about caring about the other's well-being? I don't know.
no subject
Like I need checking up on...
no subject
[he grins.]
So? What are you up to?
no subject
[ there's a hesitant smile on his face. ]
Thought I could do something productive for once.

[he seems curious! hangs onto the top of the doorway and leans in... maybe he can get a better look...]
no subject
[ what a nerd. ]
no subject
[he continues to hang there. lets go with one arm. hangs off the doorframe. eventually pulls himself up to stand like a normal person and walk into the room.]
no subject
but he holds up the little model when he's close enough. ]
Better?

kitchen!
Hey.
[... as she gets closer she examines him more carefully]
You look horrible. Are you okay?
no subject
Gee, thanks.
I'm fine. I haven't slept the last few days.
no subject
Why not? [she frowns a bit] I mean, you're not a kid so you can do what you want, but that's a pretty bad habit.
no subject
I just... can't. I'm pretty sure it's called insomnia.
no subject
That sucks. What do you do during all that free time?

[ 'not really' aka not at all, uhh ]

Then I'll look through my lab for... [and then she slouches again. she doesn't know what she's looking for] something. If I find anything, I'll let you know.
no subject
Okay. I wouldn't mind a little help.
no subject
Try to be a part of this crew. [She can recognize that these are good people, and she wants to help in her own awkward way]
no subject
I don't care that you're new, you know? It's not a problem. Take it at your own pace, and I'll try not to get hurt or anything.
Besides, you're already a part of this crew.
