That's wonderful.
[he hadn't even meant to check this out for long, but now he's slinking into the room and having a seat on whatever piece of furniture isn't occupied.]
We don't get a lot of music out here, and it's kind of... boring, when we finally do. I miss having real instruments around...

Thank you.
[He makes no comment on it, that's what the Fleet wants from him, right? Give the people on the ship a safe place to come to.]
You mean like that jingle? [He pulls a face. ] Not what I'd call music.

[aaah, he gets it. someone who gets it. that's wonderful.]

[He chuckles softly, turning his guitar sideways, so Robin can see the inscription carved into it.]
I made a promise to make sure my music always has heart in it.

That's charming. Is Maria who you made that promise to?
no subject
Yes! She is the love of my life. I was trying to get back to her when I was brought here.

[he doesn't... look anywhere close to crying, but he says it anyway. and the smile on his face still seems like a genuine one. maybe it was a joke? hrm.]
Tell me, what do you like about her so much?
no subject
That would be like asking me why I like breathing. María, she's my life, my-my everything. Without her, there's no reason to anything. I've loved her my whole life, even death couldn't change that. There's nobody else in the world, in the universe like her.
She is so fierce and determined. She will stop at nothing to do what is right, to protect those who can't protect themselves. And even in all that fierceness, she's kind and gentle to the people who need it. She can bring people together, to be happy, to fight someone threatening them, she's a real leader. When her time comes, she will lead San Angel like no other ever has.
[Might want to get a soda or something, he's not done. ]
She's smart, too, you know? If she wants to learn a skill, she'll work and work at it until she's mastered it. She has such drive and ambition, it makes you want to be a better person just by being around her, even if she'd never expect it of you. All she wants in return is honesty, if for you to be yourself. No one needs to pretend around her. ...I don't have to pretend around her. [Then, almost as an afterthought; because this is not as important to him as everything else:] And she is incredibly beautiful.
[He really isn't kidding about the true love thing. Manolo is Disney Princess levels, here.]

but he did. and on and on... and...]
--Ah, I see. [w-who is he again? where are they?] Well, I... Can't possibly doubt your devotion, I'll give you that much.
no subject
Yeah, she means everything to me. [The smile fades, a fraction. ] I really miss her.
[He'd done everything in his power and beyond to get back to her, only to have his reward snatched from him. It's not fair.]
no subject
Keep playing your songs, Manolo. You'll get back to her one day, and we'll do what we can to speed up the journey.

Don't worry, I don't plan on stopping any time soon. And thank you, I really appreciate that. [A little incline of his head.] You are a good man, my friend.

[maybe this is his cue to... get up before this conversation accidentally starts going places he didn't mean it to go.]

Of course.
