[There's a static-filled and alarmed transmission before the SS Golden and the SS Pathstone speed off towards each other — the voice is that of Takeshi's sitting at the pilot seat, trying in vain to alter the courses and not let the ships move on their own accord.]

All the ▓▓▓▓▓ controls not working!! Ship▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ can't stop ▓▓▓▓▓▓!!!

Every▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ seatbelts ▓▓▓▓▓▓ gonna crash!

[There's a rolling, anbd the screen is fuzzy and nothing is immediately distinguishable as there's a great big CRASH!!! It seems the crews of the ships have been lost — Or, well, it seemed that way until suddenly the camera, abandoned on the floor, shows... confetti...?]

[Takeshi stands, panting and in a fighting pose, his gun drawn and ready for battle, likely members of the two crews standing around him as well. Slowly... he picks up his feed device and puts away the gun, looking puzzled as he walks around the new bridge, toward the controls.]

Is... everyone okay...?

[He wanders over to the captain's ship, stares down at the cake. Reads what's on it:]

"Congratulations... SS... Goldstone. Happy... Fusion..."

....

....

[After a long and thoughtful pause, he blows out the candle.]

[Now that's an alarming broadcast if he's ever seen one. Being down on the Ring world he didn't see the 'collision', but he calls up immediately once he sees Takeshi on screen again.]

Takeshi, what happened?

Our ships smashed together!!

And we got cake for it!

[Clearly that explains everything, doesn't it.]

They smashed?

[That background does not look like it belongs to a ship collision, mister. He squints at the image, trying to see if anything looks amiss behind Takeshi.]

What about your crew?

[He hasn't forgotten that Tempest is on that ship too.]

We're okay... Nobody's dead, anyways! Everyone just showed up together.

From our ship and from the other ship, too. Everything's... [He struggles for an detailed description of it, but just mashes his hands together instead.] ...together! Some rooms are the same as our ship, but some look really different.

[That sounds like some kind of merger. His lips thin at the implications.]

You should probably check the whole ship over... to see if anything is missing or vastly different.

I've never heard of something like this happening with the ships.

[He inhales a tiny gasp.]

I hope they didn't lose any of my drawings....

[He's pitter-pattering to go look.]

[It's such an innocent thing to worry about after ships have collided and merged. Erik watches Takeshi's progress, intently interested in what the changes might be.]

How does it look?

[He holds up the video feed to show the captain's quarters -- it's actually quite empty, but there are drawings of all sorts of people from the fleet on the walls. I'm sure you're in there somewhere, too. There's a few wooden-carved action figures sitting on the bed, too. He fans the feed around the pictures.]

It all looks good!! Nothing moved!

That's real crazy...!

[His eyes snag on what looks like a doodle of himself, and it's... charming, in that child-like way. Erik won't comment on it however.]

Or rather, they made sure to arrange things in the same places.

I guess they musta'! But why do you think they did all this?

It's kinda weird, huh? It's like making a mega-robot out of other robots, but nothings any bigger or stronger...

[Or retrofitting one car out of the parts from two. Erik presses his lips together, displeased with the whole situation.]

They must have a reason. Something dramatic to draw a bigger audience, perhaps.
