Dear friends. [ some lies are kindly told. like this one, wherein she counts only a few souls in the fleet as friends but it's only polite to address the whole lot with warmth and generosity. especially when she's asking for help. and especially when there are lions in the tall grass. ]

I need a recipe for baklava -- I do not think anyone eats it where I come from. But someone dear to me who has long since left the fleet used to bring baklava every week. And we would enjoy it together. I should like to have some again but the cook on this ship needs to know how it's made. Please -- I promise the information will go to good use, although some cooks must covet their kitchen's secrets.

[ sansa approaches her broadcast with steel in her spine: hands folded in her lap; hair brushed until it shines. if there are enemies recently shuffled onto ships, then she must let them know she is comfortable here. she is protected. after surviving the raid, she realizes her days of hiding must be numbered.

as an afterthought, she adds a bit of mercy. a gesture of peace for jeyne: ] Or if there are other recipes you have and want to share, you may do so. My good-sister is new to her duties and I think it would be a kindness to provide her with fresh dishes.

[ ordinarily, in the evening, she would go to the garden on the iskaulit to 'pray' -- but with the news of recent arrivals, she's too skittish to leave the blue fish. instead, she stays on ship and prays in her quarters. sansa kneels on the floor and props her elbows on her mattress. as much as it's become an act (a performance!) she still feels compelled to go through the motions. it's like meditating. ]

[ well. she's curious. ]

...Have you had the pleasure of meeting her?

I have, yes. She was our pilot for awhile.

I wish I could have met her, too. Sokka holds her in such high esteem.

[ or at least he seemed to hold the statue in high esteem, and sansa has generalized that sentiment to the woman herself. ]

I wish you could have too. You'd like her. She's very brave, but very kind too. Sokka misses her a lot.

[ -- poor sokka. ]

He wears such a brave face. And to think he's been so supportive through everyone else's losses.

[.....Wow. Girl, even Allen can tell you got a thing for Sokka right now.

He'll refrain from saying it though. It'd be rude to do so.]

Mm. That's how he is. He likes to look after the crew first.

[ just as well, really. sansa isn't quite self-aware enough to recognize the pieces in play. ]

So I take it we actually have our captors to thank for the -- [ ah ] -- artwork in the cargo bay.

Yeah, that's one way to look at it!

Though I must admit, it does add...character, to our cargo area. No other ship has anything like it.

-- It's almost charming when compared to the dragon skulls they used to display in the Red Keep. Back home.

Dragon skulls?

[Eeesh. He's only ever had to face one dragon in all his travels, and for Allen? That was more than enough.]

I could see Hawke loving that. All three of them.

Before I was born, the Iron Throne was held by Targaryen kings. And years and years ago they flew on dragons. Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters rode three great ones when they seized Westeros. Vhagar, Meraxes, and Balerion the Black Dread -- we are taught these stories when we are children.

A royal family that owned dragons?

[Holy shit]

That's a little scary sounding.

Frightening, yes? [ her agreement is mild. hells, she even manages a coy smile. to her, dragons have been a constant presence in history. in lore. even in politics. ] That last one died some hundred and fifty years ago. Or -- was thought to have been the last one.

[ calmly -- ] House Targaryen no longer holds the throne but not long ago there was a daughter of that house here in the fleet. And she had dragons. New, living dragons. Back home so many of us thought her existence was mere rumour for a long while.

Ah- that's right. I think I remember her. I stocked up on a lot of burn ointment when she got it.

[Which strangely helped out a lot when ANOTHER dragon attacked. Funny how things work out.]

Clever, Ser Allen. [ ... ] She might have been...unpredictable.

Mm. Better safe than sorry.

- Oh! I wanted to ask you something.

Yes? [ her curiousity gets the better of her nerves. ] What is it?

Well I bought some aging upgrades, so I could look my age?

Except, I forgot about growth spurts so...my clothes don't really fit anymore.

Sokka thought that maybe you could help me?

Certainly, certainly. I would love to help. [ ... ] Did you not look your age before, ser?

Gods. [ soft, whispered. almost as though she thinks the device won't pick up her surprise.

but deep down she knows it will. ]
