[Max gives pause.

He doesn't have too many qualms with taking back things he's offered, not really, but he does think it over for a moment before nodding — if the kid has his own selection, no reason not to take it back. If only for Carl's sake. Max would want something he offers back to be taken, as a strange sense of obligation. Humming, the knife gleams in his hand after he takes it.]

Good. Looting's good.

Raiders messed up a lot, but got some good weapons out of it.

[ He nods, pleased, when Max takes the knife back. ]

Got a pretty good laser rifle off of one of them. They screwed up our ship, but they paid for it.

[ And then some. No one on the Red Fish took prisoners or left anyone alive. Just their stuff in retribution. ]

Mmm. Good.

[Max is not one of those nice hero-types who try to keep things painless and without death.

Raiders had what was coming to them. Death's sometimes a mercy compared to what the worst do.]

Weapons here can be pretty nice. Better than the rusted parts back home.

Too bad we can't take 'em with us when we leave.

[ Giving a walker a laser rifle to the face seems pretty satisfying, anyway. Probably only in theory and not actually in practice. Yikes. ]

Don't know if we'd even remember this place.

[And you know... He's kind of conflicted about all that.

Maybe even sad at the thought. Who knew]

Probably more convenient for them if we don't.

[ Not that he really likes the idea of his memories being tampered with in the first place.

Harder to survive back home, anyway.

Yeah. It would be pretty confusing remembering things that didn't happen at home.

Remembering being almost normal. Safer.

Make you go crazier.

You might be more careless, too.

Thinking you're safe when you're really not. People get killed for less.

Smart to think like that. Shouldn't forget it, even if you learn to live this life.

[ Things tend to happen when they settle into any sort of normality or rhythm. Maybe that just means it's not meant for them, though his dad certainly doesn't think so. ]
