Hey, everyone. I hate to butt in with business when we're having a good time, but I feel like this is a good time to remind you all that I have a list of everyone in the Fleet that has medical or healing skills, and I'd like to make sure it's up to date. Considering the disease that's ravaging the native population here, if anybody is inclined to try and help them, it'd be good to know so we can collaborate.

The good news is that thus far, members of the Drift Fleet seem to be unaffected, so we don't have to worry about getting sick from it. Our medbays are also able to synthesize medicine, and I'm offering free use of the Wonderduck's medbay if anyone wants to give it a try. I'd like to do what I can to help these people for the short time we're here.

Oh, and anybody who's exploring these dungeons... please be careful. I'll be cheering for you from afar, since I'm not the dungeon-exploring sort. [She grins.]

You're welcome. I figured it would be good to have around in case we had a mass casualty event- and that definitely happened with the raiders not too long ago. I was just picturing trying to coordinate a medical response over the network... it would've been a nightmare.

Glad to meet you, Ravi. I'm Jennifer. Or, more formally, Dr. Jennifer Keller. I'm also Captain of the SS Wonderduck, but I'm not sure how to fit that title in. Am I just Captain Keller? Dr. Captain Keller? Captain Dr. Keller? [She chuckles.]

You know, that's a good question! It's important to know which title takes precedence, especially in the event that they need to announce your name for a medal ceremony or something like that.

Yeah, I want to make sure everyone knows how spectacular and well-decorated I am. No sense of modesty or humility here. [She winks.]

Why else do we work so hard to get all these letters before and after our names?

So what's your experience? I've prepared the other medical staff here with the fact that I'm a medical examiner, so the majority of my patients are somewhat beyond medical help.

I know, right? It was all for the commendations.

Well, I was recruited to my job right out of med school. I was head of medicine for a scientific expedition in another galaxy, so I've got a bit of an eclectic skillset. Wound care, disease management... I guess "general practitioner" is the most fitting term.

Yeah, okay, you definitely win in having the cooler job.

It's challenging, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Of course, I couldn't tell anybody about it back home, because it was for the U.S. military. Very hush hush.

Does having the lab brain chip thing make me count?

I mean, I've been faking doctor for my ship.

It does help, yes- and I can offer assistance, if you'd like. I was a doctor back home, and I've been in the Fleet so long this sort of thing is old hat by now.

I did a little bit of work on it back on the ring world. Dunno how much I really accomplished, though.

But hey, any assistance is great. Maybe I can pick up some actual doctoring and not just keep faking it.

If you're willing to learn, I'm willing to teach. I can't replace a formal medical education, but I can teach first aid and wound care. They're valuable skills to have.

Yeah, the augments can only do so much. When it comes to medical stuff, practical experience is what you need.

It really is. I was lucky to get one that matched my existing skills, but I'm still always aware that it's there. Like something is just a little bit off, you know?

It's nice for the stuff it gives me though. Like, I wouldn't have had a clue what to do to even start trying to research the virus thing, right? But then I'm thinking about it and BAM.

Smarts. In my head.

Mmhmm. They definitely have their good and bad points- but either way, I'd be grateful to have more help looking into this disease. From the sounds of it, it's been devastating to this population, and I need to at least try and do SOMETHING about it.

Well there's a bunch of actual doctors around, right? Plus the rest of us playing them on space-tv.

There are several of us around, thankfully. And those who can use healing magic, which also helps a great deal.

I'm confident that we can. If only we knew how long we were going to be here... it feels like a race against the clock more often than not.
