Well, yeah! We don't have that kind of thing in my world, it's all legends! You're really a fairy? What kinds of things can you do? The myths are really... varied, where I come from.

Oh, tons of stuff! And there's a whole bunch of different kinds of fairies, so that accounts for all of the different stories, and legends, and--

[she stops herself, suddenly, voice... well, it was never loud to begin with, but she somehow quiets down and gets a very serious expression on her face.]

Wait, hang on. It's... I wanted to tell you guys, but please, it's really important that you don't tell anybody else. The people here seem to be really okay with magic, but... Back home, I had a lot of people chasing me and trying to like, dissect me for science and stuff. Just in case one of them shows up...

Oh, okay! I, um... Well, I've got a super-secret fairy form, but I don't know if I can show it to you... It tends to really freak out normal people for some reason. Magic is weird.

[she taps her chin for a second. thinking. she can also... talk to things? but Hiro couldn't hear them talk back, so it'd be really boring... she can dislocate all of her bones? but that... creeps out other fairies, so poor Hiro would be pretty uncomfortable...]

...Okay. Let me just set up a little bunk and I'll do something cool.

[here, she'll go back to those hanging herbs and pick some flowers off the stalks. and pick up a couple of the cleaner bones. and come back to start putting things down in a pattern on the floor.]

[And he's just gonna wait, watch what she's doing, try to guess... But of course, he has absolutely no idea.]

Right now I'm just, um, doing this so that I don't have to burn up my energy to cast the spell. It's kind of like... In a videogame, when you have an MP bar? Bad things happen if it gets too low, but the MP cost is like, cut in half if I take an extra turn to do this...

Oh! And I usually don't do so good around mechanical stuff, but everything you've been building has been really nice. I think because it's so creative...

[okay. flowers are in order. bones are arranged. she holds her hands out over the circle, the flowers begin to wither, and--fwoom! a sizable fire suddenly appears, floating over her hands.]

[he's kind of laughing incredulously while he talks.]

[his laughter is contagious. the fire looks really nice, since it's magical... and she lifts it up to show that it's not going anywhere without her.]

I was so freaked out when I first found out I could do this. I like, accidentally made all this water come out of nowhere and I had to make up a story to my roommate about why there were puddles all over the floor...

Oh, man, how long did it take you to figure out you could do it?

Um... I started figuring it out just a couple years ago, and then... Well, it took me about a month to figure out how to stuff like this and not accidentally set myself on fire? And I'm still practicing how to do the really big stuff. It usually works...

[there's no fancy ritual this time. she just pours a little glamour into it, and... the fire flutters off in all directions, turning blue and green--butterflies, actual living butterflies, all fluttering harmlessly up towards the top of the volcano.

she watches them go, putting her hands down.]

So, okay. Secret true story: the beanbags in the library aren't really beanbags. They're extra crates that I enchanted to seem like beanbags.

The crates? I, uh... Actually, nothing, I think. They're just crates. That look and feel like beanbags. I mean if you punched a beanbag there'd still be beans everywhere because that's how the magic works, but...
