You should definitely take what Allen says with a grain of salt. I don't doubt that it happened to him, but... I think most of his experiences don't really apply to normal situations.

[Tina nods slowly, toying with the tab on a can of Potted Meat Food.]

I figured it was better safe than sorry when it comes to curses. That's not something I wanted to inflict on everyone. But I trust Misty when she says it's safe.

She seems like the sort of person who knows what they're talking about.

[Insert finger waggle about magic here or something.]

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Asuna could heal any curse-related status effects that might hit us, so it's fine.

Oh! Really? [Tina sounds interested in that as she finally pops open the can and starts shaping the contents into a burger patty.] Man, that's got to be a handy ability to have. Back home we couldn't exactly get cursed... to my knowledge, anyway... but if you got sick or something, well, we didn't have any magic or anything.

Yeah, it's sort of... rare, I guess you could say, where I'm from.

[It technically shouldn't even work here, because video games, but who even knows what the Atroma can do. His girlfriend perpetually looks like an elf lady, after all, and he can turn into one willy nilly, so...]

But it's come in handy, so no complaints on my end.

I'm a little envious. I mean, I wrote a lot of fanfiction back home, so I lived some different lives in my imagination, but this isn't quite the same thing...

Uh-huh. I take TV shows and movies and stuff I like and write new stories about the characters. Sometimes I put myself in as a new character.

Ohhhh. That's, um, creative.

[It's like roleplaying? Kinda? Textually? He knows about that.]

I love doing it. ... even though Louise sometimes reads it and critiques it. Actually, my whole family thinks it's a little weird.

Families don't always get the hobbies of other people. I figure that's part of growing up... my family never really got why I was so into games all the time.

I'm lucky in that they never try to discourage me from doing it, even if they do think it's odd. So that's nice. [Remembering what she's trying to do, Tina drops the Meat Food patty into a pan and turns the stove on, starting to fry it.] I even read some in front of my whole school once.

Oh wow... that's brave. Even regular public speaking is something I hate doing most times. How'd that go?

Better than my parents and siblings thought it would. Tammy... well, I was gonna call her a friend, but she's more of a frenemy... was trying to blackmail me and was going to read it aloud to everyone, so I decided to just read it first and beat her to the punch. My crush thought it sounded good, so that was a nice bonus.

Geez, yeah I wouldn't call that a friendly gesture. Nice that it worked out for you, though. Doing something like that takes guts.

My parents have always encouraged me to just be who I am, so it was easy to get up the courage. I mean... people DID laugh at me til Tammy laugh-farted and got their attention on her instead, but I didn't mind. I'm not embarrassed by being myself.

That's a good way to live your life. Most people can't do that... for a long time, I know I couldn't. Try to hold onto that, it'll really do you good in the long run.

[Tina grins and pokes at the soon-to-be burger with her spatula.]

I feel like it might be more difficult here, but... I feel like I'd be doing a disservice to the way I was raised, too. If I tried to change myself to try and be more appealing to whoever's watching us and giving us things.

Oh, for sure. This place... I can see how it might be tempting to change your personality for the cameras, but considering they don't tell us when the cameras are off, you'd have to do it 24/7. That sounds exhausting.

It really does. And it'd all be a waste, since I doubt they're literally watching us all that time. Considering that they thought that sending me potted horse meat was a good idea, they can't be paying too close attention.

Haha... yeah, you really like horses, don't you?

They're the most magical non-magical animal. I've never gotten to ride a real one, but I have horse posters all over my bedroom back home and a bunch of toy horses.

They're not bad for getting places if you want to be there fast, assuming there's no cars around. I rode a horse once, but it threw me off, so I think I'm happier to see them from a distance.
