[ A wink, yeah, he's already figured out about how much a first mate does (or does not) do. Mostly he figured McCoy might not mind what help he could give. ]

And for everyone new or new-ish on the Caprine, which might even include me, welcome.

Maybe we can have a party when we leave this system. It can double as a 'thank Morrígan no one expects us to be fish anymore' party.

If anyone wants to fetch alcohol from this planet while you're out, we can probably find a way to drink it.

[ Kai's mostly wandering through the Caprine now, trying to at least inventory what they already have. What previous crew members might have left behind and still hasn't been claimed. He knows McCoy is going to be on the planet, helping. It's just that Kai would be useless on two counts if he'd gone with, and he does feel a bit bad about it. ]

I can't really give advice. It's mostly just being a support to the Captain in charge. Not much else to it besides that. I try and keep the Goldstone organized as far as shipments and things that come in and out of the ship from the Marsiva and whatnot - food and the like. I also work as Lab Support so most of my work revolves around that.

Congratulations on your ascension in rank. Was it a choice or did Atroma do it for you?

I have been first mate on the Tourist for some time. I cannot promise my advice would work for you and your ship, I feel each is unique in that regard, but I will answer any questions you might have as best I can.

Yeah, I'll still be security. I don't have any plans on giving that up, but it's not like I'm doing that much with it when we're not actually being attacked.

I figured I could help a little by doing it, and my Captain didn't seem to mind the idea.

How long have you been First Mate on the Tourist?

True. Either way - being a First Mate is just about support. That's about all I can think to say is just make sure you're on top of whatever your captain isn't, if they aren't. Keepin' the crew safe is important too. Even if we aren't under attack it's still good to be prepared and to be cautious.

I think we could all do to be a lot more prepared for attack. I'm going to try to work on that for the Caprine, at least.

What other threats have crews faced before? I'm still a bit new.

The effective kind. It's a party, so I don't think anyone will be too picky. I suppose it would be better if it didn't taste like seaweed.

Don't think it quite worked out that way for my captain, but at least I can have his back.

Hm, it is important that they have someone to fall back on, even if they don't think so at the time.

Do not be afraid to disagree with your captain, and tell them as such. You are there to support them, yes, but you are also a fresh pair of eyes. You are there to see what they may miss, to see something from another angle. You should always feel free to speak your mind. A good captain should not dismiss your words, they should take them on board- learn from them.

[ As a general rule, sure, but also for this role he's stepped up for. The balance between loyalty and thinking for oneself can be a hard one to walk. ]

You'd be surprised how many people have difficulty, but I consider myself quite good at this particular skill set.

I mean if you want to organize logs of supplies you could do that, I suppose.
