Who: Rey
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: On the planet~
When: Thursday morning.

[Water. There is so much water. Rey doesn't quite know what to do with herself as she stands on one of the shores.]

I have never seen so much water. Is it always so blue? [Entering it seems questionable, but when in Rome, right? Not that she knows of Rome or that particular metaphor.] Can anyone give me pointers on how to swim?

[She hasn't actually done that before.]

I think I can figure it out and not drown, but - [She's trying to be cautious. Does she get points for that?]

Not drowning is the easy part here since you can breathe underwater on this planet. It's normally the hard part.

Yeah. I went through their decontamination and everything. I have no idea how the breathing thing works here. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but considering how their world is set up it's necessary. Definitely don't try it off this world. After that swimming is just physics. [That was supposed to make it sound easier.]

Um, yeah, sure. I could go for a swim. The breathing underwater thing is getting less freaky. [She's gotten used to stranger things.]

Should I come to your ship?

I could teach you, if you like?

I swam a great deal in my world. My family home was along the coast.

It was beautiful, but we were vulnerable to raiding parties. Our home was dilapidated and in need of repair, so we were not able to withstand attacks or harsh weather.

[That was more about money than about the ocean.]

I would love to teach you. I am available now, if you like?

It would be better if we met face to face. We should begin on the beach so that it is shallow enough for you.

It will take me a moment to put on the suit they provided us.

I know, isn't it amazing? [From a desert dweller to another.] Have you gone down with any of the ships to see below the water too yet?

It is here on this planet. I don't know how they do it, but you can breath under water here. I- ah, kinda got forcefully dunked in myself, but being able to breath underwater makes not knowing how to swim a lot easier! Probably one of the best planets to learn on now that I think about it.

Just don't try it on any other world.

Yeah, anything bigger than you it's best to stay away from.

But, ah, I'm actually from a desert. So I'm not the best one to ask about the predators in the water. I've just been sticking around the local underwater cities myself.

If you want to check the area underwater without just diving right in first my shuttle isn't too far away I could come find you and take you under with it. That way you can look out the window and just enjoy the view to start with.

I can tell you why the water's so blue! [In fact, he looks eager to share that information.] Or I can also help teach you how to swim. Or both!

[Oh boy oh boy! Clay bounces a bit, always happy to drop some science on people.]

I'd be happy to help! During my training, I had to learn how to swim well, so I can teach you a thing for two!

As for why the water's blue... It all has to do with light. You see, the way we perceive colors is how objects absorb, reflect, or refract the light of the sun. The white light of the sun is actually made up of multiple colors, and when it hits the ocean, the water absorbs the red, yellow, and orange light the most, but not so much the blue. So what we see is the blue part of the sun's light being returned, like a filter taking out all the red colors and leaving blue behind!

Not always so blue. [He's smiling, warm but quiet.] Swimming is nice, but you might find it somewhat fraught if you don't have the experience. Floating is very important, I think.
