[ There is very little worse than waking in an unfamiliar place, disorientated, confused, and incredibly disgruntled. Still that he can't remember ever going to sleep, he doesn't need sleep so why did he... Eizen shifts groggily attempting to get out of the bed he found himself in - only to come crashing down on the cold hard floor.

With his elbow landing on the device the feed flicks on just in time to see and hear the blond hair man curse loudly, sharp jarring pain shooting up his arm. Growling he pushes himself up to sit leaning against the side of the bed, hand reaching up to holding his still swimming head. ]

Where the hell...? Zaveid?

[ He can remember that the idiot had been with him, that they spent the evening drinking and talking as the world continued on around them unaware. ]

If this is some kind of joke I'm not laughing.

[Mikleo hums quietly, considering the rest, and then nods.]

I see... so a thousand years after, give or take. The Temperance of Avarost ended more than two thousand years ago, going by the history I know.

[As tragic and gut-wrenching as this whole reunion is probably going to be, he can't help feeling... kind of excited. Another person from the past, who might be willing to talk about their experiences? Who might not be barred from doing so by an oath, or overprotectiveness, or their own sorrows?

So cool. So cool.]

[ If his birth had been two thousand years ago then Mikleo, perhaps even Zaveid, is a thousand years ahead of him. A thousand years. What is the world like thousand years ahead of him? Is it a better place for malaks now? Did he survive long enough to see the world change for the better?

Was he still himself?

Absently he reaches for the coin in his pocket, hand curling around it tightly. It'd be stupid to hope, wouldn't it? It was only a matter of time before the malevolence took it's toll on him. He couldn't have survived another thousand years. Apprehensive and curious all at the same time he pushes down the distant sounds of roaring, the memories of a promise. ]

What are things like in your era?

[That right there is on the list of things Mikleo isn't going to tell him, mostly because he doesn't think it's his right. Asking about one's future in general seems like a bad idea to him, which is why he hadn't asked Zaveid or Lailah about his own. Hell, Sorey finding out that they'll kill Eizen is one of the factors that pushed him towards malevolence. It's Eizen's first day, he hasn't even spoken with Zaveid yet- now is not the time.

It's going to be tricky, though. But thankfully one seraph - or even one dragon - is just a small part of a very big world.]

Challenging, for the most part. Malevolence is widespread, and without resonance the majority of humans can't work with seraphim to purify it. Most of them don't even know when it's happening right in front of their eyes. Monsters, hellions, malevolence itself, they all appear as normal people or animals, or simply unexpected natural events. And right now there's only one-

Shepherd. The Shepherd was the cause of a whole lot of awful back then, wasn't he? That's what Zaveid said. This whole conversation is a landmine waiting to happen.

Think, think...]

...There's... a few humans who can channel the power of purification by cooperating with seraphim, thanks to their high resonance. Those are the ones we've been traveling with. We're trying to quell the malevolence together.

[ If there are things Mikleo isn't telling him Eizen doesn't appear to sense it, listening silently as the water seraph talks. It does not surprise him that malevolence is still present, nor that it is so widespread. It was that way in his own era, only for a time people could see and were terrified by the monsters their friends became.

But as he goes on something stands out, the power of purification, thoughts quick to summon up memories of Laphicet's silver flames. That dragon, the malevolence creeping up his legs, thick and suffocating, then there was the flash of light, warm flames and he could breathe again.

With a soft noise Eizen mutters, more to himself than to Mikleo. ]

So, he really did it, huh?

[ Somehow he figured out how to control it, he figured out how to pass it on to others, he figured out how to help people instead of killing them. Way to go. ]

I'm glad there is another way. That humans and malaks [ Give him a while he'll get used to saying seraphim. ] are able to work together again. A lot of them aren't as bad as they appear, I know I used to travel with a ship full of them. Men like that, they don't deserve to be doomed by malevolence turning into daemons that have to be put down.

["He really did it"? Did Eizen know Maotelus, the way Zaveid did? Well, if they were around in the same era, that makes sense. Filing that away as something to ask later.

As for daemons... if it's tied to malevolence, then...]

They're called hellions these days, but they're still around. I guess some things don't change even after so long. Humans are okay, though. I grew up with one, so maybe I'm biased, but they have a lot of potential for good.

[This is totally high praise from him, honest.]

[ Hellions. So there had to be a name change for both malaks and daemons, huh? He is incredibly curious what brought on the change, and who exactly brought it on. But it's a less important subject right now. ]

Malevolence will always be around so long as there are humans who generate it. [ It's the sad state of things, but it is better than a suppressed world. ] Aye, you might be. But you are right, humans have a lot of potential.

[ For good as much good as bad. ]

[Mikleo doesn't need to be a mindreader to recognize the implications of those words, and as much as he wants to for Sorey's sake, he can't disagree, so he leaves it at that.

There are other issues that will need to be addressed before Eizen is moved to another ship, though, and those are much harder to deal with. He's quiet for a bit, thinking it over.]

Listen... while you're here you might hear some things that sound deeply disturbing without historical context. I'm not expecting you to trust what I say at face value, so all I'll ask is that you don't cause trouble until you have all the information.

[ How much has his arrival complicated things? His presence, his curse, disrupting whatever happy unit Zaveid and his friend managed to find with one another.

After a drawn out moment of silence Eizen responds, exhaling heavy through his nose. ]

I'm not unreasonable. [ Except when it comes to his sister. ] I'll listen to whatever you have to say.

[ A lot can happen in a thousand years, a lot can change. ]

[Phew, okay. Well, at least he's not going on a rampage. Assuming this doesn't change his mind.]

Okay... first, you should know that while the nature of our connection has changed - that is, between humans and seraphim - the name hasn't. The humans who form pacts with our kind are called Shepherds.

[ Thankfully it doesn't, though he does make a rather unhappy noise at the name. ]

I know the title.

[ Differently, of course, at least towards their kind. To humans was different, to humans the Shepherd was their savoir, their guiding light through the darkness that tormented them all. ]

[It's cheating a bit, going off of what Zaveid's told him, but anything Zaveid knows about the world back then, Eizen would.]

It's a true partnership, these days. Initiated by a seraph, who can break the connection at any time. Beneficial to everyone involved.
