the short version my brother passed away before i was born and my parents didn't know how to deal with it so they rushed to have another kid without considering whether they were capable of caring for another one that fast

basically, when I was 11 my dad went nuts and tried to kill his boss. he failed, but killed half a dozen people in his place, so he went to jail and my mom bailed.
