dancingmd: (why aren't we all being interrogated?)

Who: Beverly Crusher, Ezri Dax, James Kirk, Leonard McCoy, and Pavel Chekov - and you, should you like to stop by!
Broadcast: video
Action: Málum
When: April 5

[So Beverly may or may not have taken a few tequila shots. And she may or may not be quite drunk and affectionately effusive about... everything. Thus she has something Very Important to tell the Fleet, which she does from inside Málum with some of her Starfleet companions around. Thankfully, one of them is holding the camera or this feed would be a lot more intolerably shaky.

It's also one of the rare times you'll find her in her Starfleet Uniform.]

Today! [Beverly claps her hands together.] Today is an important holiday back home - First Contact Day! It marks the time when humans finally launched the first spaceship powered by warp drive and that was also the same day we met the Vulcans. [She frowns, her thoughts coming more slowly than is usual.] I don't think we've had any Vulcans here in the fleet, unless it was a long time ago before I came. Which is really weird when you stop to think about it, that there's been Humans and Cardassians and Trill but no Vulcans. Or anybody else really. Vulcans kind of look like elves so I've often wondered if maybe they are but just so many universes removed that it's not quite the same.

[Clearly someone is giving her A Look from behind the camera and she points an admonishing finger at them.]

I'm getting there! [She straightens up and pats her hair, getting back into "lecture" mode.] What probably many of you don't know, is that I saw all of this, first hand, the last time I went home. You see there were the Borg - only we're not going to go into them because this is supposed to be a celebration - and they were trying to go back in time to ruin the warp ship so the Vulcans wouldn't come down to see us so of course we had to go stop them even though we're not supposed to time travel - and for good reason too, it's a pain in the ass. One time Mark Twain followed us onto the Enterprise and it was this whole thing though I guess it worked out all right in the end because then he wrote A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court so that's good. And he really was very nice and understanding of why he couldn't tell anyone what he saw.

[Another pause as she tries to figure out why she started talking about Mark Twain. Ah! Right!]

So anyway we had to go back in time to stop the Borg and so we met Zefram Cochrane who invented the warp drive and he was completely not like any of us expected and you know, sometimes they say you shouldn't meet your heroes? We'd all been taught about what a great genius he was, and that's true, but I guess they didn't really want to mention in the history books that he really liked to party and building the ship wasn't some noble, selfless endeavor to advance science - it was a difficult time in human history, and he needed the money. But that's the beautiful thing isn't it? People are complicated and may not always be what you expect but they still can do great things. And that's really what First Contact Day is about, celebrating the amazing things we've already done and the things we'll do in the future too. Together.

[This nerd, y'all. You should come party with her.]

[It's probably somewhat appropriate to the occasion then that someone from yet another unfamiliar alien species responds, right? So have a giant four-armed, four-eyed alien in plate armor poking her nose (figuratively speaking) into this whole affair.]

You've shared enough that I'm certain we are not from the same galaxy. But, such notable accomplishments certainly deserve recognition.

[Even if she's got a feeling this sort of celebration isn't her thing. It sounds it too, but honestly, humans openly celebrating meeting the rest of the galaxy's inhabitants is strange enough she can't help but feel like it deserves some sort of recognition on her part.]

How does one observe First Contact Day?

How else? With a party!

[ He's a touch tipsy compared to the last time they meet, Looma, and he's grinning into the feed. ]

[EXCUSE U SHE WAS ASKING THE OTHER TIPSY ONE oh well he seems to be familiar with the holiday, so, good enough for Looma.]

I see. I gather it is well underway already?

You are correct. Back home it's an all day celebration - a world holiday.

[ He smiles fondly, or is it sadly, then. ]

It's been awhile since I've celebrated it properly.

[Honestly she can't tell, humans are hard to read. You've got too few eyes and the hair above them is kind of distracting.]

Are you not doing so now?

[Actually while she's got him here, she should probably get a second opinion on something.]

Does it really require tequila?

[ His hair is fluffy and glorious, thank you very much! ]

Hmm? No, not really. You don't even have to drink, though it's a nice excuse to if you need one.

[ He held up his own drink, a rich amber liquid, ice clinking inside. ]

I'm a whiskey or a brandy man myself. You're welcome to come and join us, Looma.

[Well that's a relief. Even if she didn't dulling her senses for a little relaxation, if she had too much, other people definitely would mind.]

I will accept your offer. I have never taken part in any human celebrations, but the aims of this one seem admirable.

But you may keep the drinking to yourselves.

[It was in everyone's best interest, really. Kirk's especially, the reprimand he'd likely get from a certain medical officer after a drunken Looma hospitalized everyone she could get her hands on would not doubt be just as brutal.]

Where is this celebration being held?

We're on the Iskaulit! Just come on over - you'll hear us long before you see us, I think!

[ He grinned brightly, clearly pleased at the notion of Looma coming to join them. ]

I could say the same. I will be there shortly.

[While there were probably a few people out there who would have loudly objected to leaving Looma to her own devices to find someone- at least one former fiancé among them- she did have every intention of exercising discretion this time around.

And it paid off too, since most were all too happy to point her in the right direction when she asked politely. So it isn't long before the telltale thudding of her footsteps could be heard- and felt- moments before she actually set foot inside. And, once there, she was definitely easy to spot, thanks to towering over just about everyone by a solid foot or more. It's just as easy for her to locate and approach Kirk as well, doing her best to gently move past anyone who might stumble into her path.]

I will admit, you make for a very lively group, James Kirk. I had not expected you to be this loud.

[ Yes, definitely easy to spot, though given her coloring Kirk thought she would be hard to miss even without the addition of the extra limbs and height. He waved her over when he saw her come in, holding court - or at least he had been - at a table near the back. ]

You can just call me Jim. James Kirk is for when I'm in trouble. And this is rather mild I would think. Wait until you see the one for Founding Day.

tough_love: (What is it human?)

[personal profile] tough_love 2017-04-10 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Nobody's explained tequila to her yet, but she's kind of putting two and two together here. And already deciding to avoid it, in everyone's best interest.]

I see. I must admit, I have yet to take part in any human celebrations. Or witness one, even.

But I am impressed you humans celebrate the realization your galaxy was shared with others. I'm much more accustomed to only a select few even realizing that the rest of us exist.

[She'll get a smile right back, even if there is just a little bit of smugness behind it.]

That seems to be true for most universes. But I cannot imagine how dull the galaxy would be without other civilizations in it.

[Tetramands may have been somewhat isolationist and distrusting of outsiders, but even their world had its fair share of residents and visitors from other planets and races- even if humans were very, very rarely among them.]

Perhaps for some of us- I appreciate the new perspectives more than the "excitement." Even if I do often disagree with them, it breaks the monotony. And it has proven useful.

[Case in point: now that she's had time to better understand you humans, she's not nearly as openly hostile as she used to be. As for the introduction, she'll go ahead and bring one fist up to her chest to make things nice and cordial, if slightly noisier, given the clinking of her armor]

I am Princess Looma of House Red Wind. And I am pleased to make your acquaintance.

Kirk James Tiberius has already extended an invitation to your celebration- I look forward to meeting in person.

[She'd unfortunately not been able to get much of a reaction out of Kirk himself when she deliberately messed up the order on that one, but she wasn't above trying the same thing with Beverly.]
