Of course, while doing this they're sharing the popular "rumors" about them out loud, for their own amusement. Or bemusement, either or]

Let’s see . . . 'Aliens stole Charles' hair.' I can’t say that’s wrong.

In a manner of speaking, sure.

What else . . . 'Hank is a beast in bed'. Hank, you sly devil.

—No comment.

Hmm. 'Hank and Charles are the perfect couple'. I think our students got a hold of this one.

Huh. I just read one lamenting our divorce.

Hold on, what’s this?

[ Charles pulls out a business card ]

Well now . . . I guess I’ll be keeping this.

[Hank's response is to burst into laughter. What a helper]

I think I can take a lab break. If there's a mess, it's Charles' fault.

[he chuckles and motions for Winn to follow him to the lab]

[ and follow he does! where he presents hank with a notebook full of hypothesized formulas and compositions. as he reads it through he'll realize what they create - a substance that would expend and shrink along with his transformations.

yeah, raven may have commissioned him to figure out a sciencey way to make his ring stay on. he doesn't say anything, just watches him as he reads. ]

[you can see the moment it clicks when he starts reading; his eyebrows furrow for a moment before shooting up in surprise, and his shoulders hunch just a bit as he brings the notebook a bit closer to read it better.

And then he pauses, glancing up to look at Winn]

You—what brought this on?

[winn]

Raven asked me. [ well - she asked everyone with the whole magical ring post and then he volunteered to prove that anything magic can do, science can do better. ] Turns out, all I needed to solve it - was a little touch of remembering what I read in alien archives. Pretty cool, right?

[beathach]

[ah yes, now he remembers. He was a chair while she was doing that. Her chair, specifically] That's - yeah, that's pretty cool.

Have you tested any of this out?

Not yet - it's why I need a lab guy. And you're the best one I know.

I'm not the best one. [he's being modest. He glances down at all the formulas again and makes a small, amused noise] A lot of these do seem viable - I'm guessing Raven asked you before I, uh - took my long nap?

[winn]

[ he rolls his eyes. ]

Yeah, you were there when she did, actually, but I guess you were super committed to your role as pillow.

It is a role I take incredibly seriously.

A true method actor - when you're the pillow you are the pillow. You should sign up for the theater.

I don't think it'd work - teaching is one thing, but I think I'd have pretty bad stage fright if I had to perform.

You never know, you might surprise yourself.

[ he shrugs ]
