Who: Kaidan and YOU
Broadcast: Fleetwide video
Action: First Breath
When: Around Monday, 4/10
[Kaidan is sitting, going by the framing on the feed, somewhere in the cargo bay of his ship. He seems slightly nervous, going by the long pause before he says anything and the glances away from the camera.]
So...here's the thing. I'm looking for a doctor on the fleet that can help me with something. I have...chronic migraines, basically. I can usually manage, but since we can't seem to hold onto a lab technician over here it's been untreated for about...five months? And...[A tiny sigh of frustration] it's starting to be a problem.
If you know anything about cybernetics or implants...kind of like our augments...[He taps the side of his neck]...that would help a lot. But honestly, anything would help at this point.
[He frowns for a moment, then smooths it out into something more neutral as he shift from his seat]
In other news...I have some extra syrup in our cargo bay if anyone wants any. None of it maple, but it is sweet.
[It's pretty tragic. He pans the video down where you can see him slip the lid off a wooden box full of glass bottles in a rainbow of colors. He pulls one out, this one a too-yellow amber.
The label reads:'FLOOT BRAND BREAKFAST SYRUP'.
This one seems to be banana, but they come in a whole bunch of fruity varieties.]

And I think I'm good on sweet things, but thanks. [She'll eat pretty much anything but has learned sweets aren't really her thing.]

[He gives her a wry smile] Yeah, well, I need the calories, but not that many. Hopefully someone will take a few off my hands. [The implication being...yeah, he's probably still going to try a few of the less objectionable flavors]
[A beat, and he clears his throat] Um...listen. Sorry I never mentioned this. But I'll say what I've told all my superiors - I don't let it get in the way. If you need me, I'll be here. Headache or no.
private - video
Yeah. Yeah, I know that. You're good, Kaidan. Don't worry about it.
private - video
Sorry, it's just usually something me or the ship doctor would tell me CO about at some point or another.
private - video
If you need help? Let me know.

But for now? I'm okay. Figured I'd say something before it did become a problem. I'm starting to wonder if Atroma has something to do with us never retaining our lab techs.

I'd be happy to help, if you'd like to stop by the Blue Fish and let me take a look - I happen to have a good deal of experience in cybernetics and nanotechnology.

Best news I've heard in awhile. Yeah...I can come over. Should I let your head of security know or anything like that?
no subject
[Wait. Right. The Lannisters.]
Actually, wait for me in the cargo bay. You won't be able to get anywhere else in the ship without me letting you in.
no subject
Not a problem. I'll keep the guns back in the ship, too.
no subject
Thank you. I'll see you shortly?
-> action
Kaidan nods, and the feed goes dark.
Some time later, a shuttle docks with the Blue Fish and Kaidan can be found waiting politely at the entrance]

Good to see you again, Kaidan. Sickbay's just down this way, if you'll follow me.
no subject
[He'll follow as soon as she moves. After a moment, he clears his throat awkwardly.] Nice ship.

[And so is she, judging from her tone. The Blue Fish is not the Enterprise, but it's become a second home to her, without her even really realizing that it's happened.
When they reach sickbay she gestures towards the door.]
After you. You can just take a seat on one of those tables there.
[The Blue Fish has had a lab upgrade, in addition to the equipment that Beverly, Allen, and Sokka have installed themselves over the years, so it's very well equipped compared to a lot of the other ships. Beverly pulls up a little rolling stool next to the exam table and takes a seat.]
Now, why don't you tell me what's been going on?
no subject
The 'what' is easy. Like I said...chronic migraines. A couple a month at least. Bright lights can kick them off too. Which is normal for me, really. They've just been a little worse lately. I haven't been properly medicated for this in months.

Honestly, I took what the ship doctor told me to take, and I don't think it would matter if I knew the names anyway...different universe and all that. Sorry, I'm not a great patient. The point is, it's not exactly the kind of thing I can take an aspirin for. What you should really know is the 'why', and that mostly has to do with my biotics.
[There's going to be a question here, and not the last, but to answer at least one of them, he activates his power just enough to give her an idea. There's the slightest warble of sound in the air as blue light ripples briefly over his skin like the sheen on a soap bubble, then coalesces for a few moments between the fingers of one hand before winking out]

If the headaches are that bad, I can have an acquaintance from home see if she can assist. I'm not a medic of any kind, but she's a sort of...healer.
As for the syrup, I believe that I can use some of it for our meals if you'd like.
[Since he's the new cook on their ship and all.]
no subject
I'd like it more if some of this were actually maple syrup, but I can't say I expected much. Besides, there's an awful lot for one crew. Either way, you're welcome to it.
[Kaidan takes a seat on the crate again, crossing his arms]
The headaches are mostly...inconvenient. I've lived with them for most of my life, but the more they happen the less I'm doing my job. What, uh...what do you mean by healer?
no subject
However, he has promised to find allies for his friend, so he has to suck it up and make nice. Besides, it's best to know who one is spending an exorbitant amount of time with, even if not directly.]
Even without it being maple, I'm sure that I can find something to do with them. There are some of the proteins that are both flavored and unflavored that might go well with a few that you have here. [He begins to lift a few bottles out of the crates and sort through them.] Although, I will admit that not even I could figure out recipes for this much of it.
Is this one of your sponsor gifts that we've all been enjoying as of late?
Lady Lunafreya has a gift. She has been blessed with the ability to heal those who have been afflicted with a terrible disease back on our world. From what I understand, they still work just as well here as they do back home.
If your headaches are as bad as you say they are, I can ask her to assist you.
no subject
[To the rest he rolls a shoulder. Asking for help still makes him uncomfortable to ask for help, and from someone other than the kind of doctor he understands even more so.]
I...don't know. I'm not sick...or dying. Or anything like that. It's a side effect of my biotic implant. So I'm not sure that I can be 'healed' outside of tampering with the implant and...headaches or no, it's not something I want to risk.

I'm not sure what Canadian means, but I was given a set of cookware and knives because of my own rumor of being that I am some sort of chef back home.
[Not exactly false, but also not exactly true either.]
I'm sure that to an outsider, her powers seem rather fantastical, but I assure you she won't do anything to exacerbate your issues. However, I can understand your reluctance. I'm sure there are other medical professionals here. I've yet to meet any myself, but it doubt that with all of the people the Atroma have selected that at least one of them isn't some sort of fulltime healer or doctor.
no subject
[And kind of weird to have to explain]
Sorry. I don't mean to doubt. I've met people here with some pretty wild talents, and that probably goes both ways. If nothing pans out here, I might take you up on the offer to meet with her.
no subject
[No, please, tell him about Earth. He'll be fascinated. He's only vaguely aware that everyone is from different worlds but no one has really told him about them.]
No, it's quite alright. As I said, it might seem fantastical. A rational man always doubts that he does not see firsthand but leaves some room to be proven wrong. If you'd like to meet with her, let me know and I can attempt to arrange it.
We're all stuck here together. It's our job to work with one another to make it a little less dreary.

...How sweet are we talking here?

...Eh, sure why not? I'll give it a try.

...So like protein gels? Yeah no. I'll pass. You officially just turned me off it.
