The SS Hotmess has been sans a captain or first mate for a few weeks now, and they've had some fascinating dreams of home. Suffice to say, it's reunion time.

You didn't even bring a present.

[ Zaveid appears not too long after her announcement, arms crossed behind his back as he watches her. Really, he's not entirely shocked that Velvet has come looking, especially given what he knows about who she's been talking to, but all the same... All he can do is shake his head, stepping around the hallway to lift a hand in greeting.

It's still a bit awkward, being around her and knowing and trying to push it off, but he gets through it. It's not as hard as being around Eizen is, after all. ]

How's it goin', Velvet?

[She's not really aware that Zaveid feels awkward. Though it's not like she'd go easy on him even if she did. She huffs when he appears, crossing her arms and giving him a flat look.]

Maybe if you're good I'll buy you a pet rock next time I'm on one of those asteroids. Where have you been?

[ Zaveid just grins, all light and playful even with the awkwardness of the situation. In the end, all he does is shrug. ]

I'll put it in my room. Call it Laphicet. [ He shakes his head. ] I've been here. Where else?

[She narrows her eyes as if to say "Zaveid you little shit."]

I don't know. I haven't seen or heard from you since my first day here.

[She steps a little closer, putting her left hand on her hip.]

You maybe should have mentioned that Sorey was a Shepherd.

[She's not mad, exactly, though she was frustrated at the time. She is just pointing it out. He could have maybe chosen not to withhold important information.]

[ He's more than used to that look and all he does is shrug it off. ]

Aww, Velvet. I guess it's normal to miss a guy as charming as me...

[ But, oh, there's the face, and he gives her a wary look before...

..... Damn. ]

It wasn't important.

Yeah, it was.

[She's pretty sure now that it's part of why he talked Sorey up so much when they last met. He didn't want her and a Sorey to fight if they met. Sorey said as much himself.]

And he was too honest to keep his mouth shut about it.

[She still thinks it was pretty stupid of Sorey to tell an angry daemon who hates Shepherds that he's a Shepherd, but it didn't turn out too badly.]

I told you, he's a good kid.

[ Zaveid just shakes his head, watching her warily. He's fought her before but he really doesn't want to piss her off today. ]

He's more than just a Shepherd, and that name isn't anything like the one he had. It's different.

[She's not here to fight, she actually likes Sorey pretty well. She's just scolding.]

Yeah. You could have explained that to me yourself. I would have listened.

[She would have been cranky but would have heard him out. Probably.]

I was a little preoccupied with something else, Velvet.

[ Eizen being back, and all. It was a bit much. ]

Eizen.

[She doesn't know the details of what went on after Eizen arrived, but she knows he didn't contact him right away. And she knows Eizen turned into a dragon and Zaveid killed him, so she can assume he had to deal with some feelings.

Unfortunately she's not the type to tiptoe around delicate subjects. So she just throws his name out there. Letting Zaveid know she knows.]

Fine. [she sighs] You've gotten cagier in your old age.

Yeah.

[ It's not easy, and it's not going to magically get better, but the time - decades of it - has given him a chance to get some kind of perspective. It means he's going to try, at least, and there's not much else anyone can ask for.

He's not surprised that Velvet's privy to it all. She's never been the type to not learn things, and he remembers them all accidentally sticking their noses into his business with Theodora too. It'll never end. ]

Cagier? Me? [ He scoffs. ] Maybe you just need to butter me up a little.

Right. I'll get right on that.

[Her words say one thing, but her tone says "don't hold your breath."]

[ All he can do is laugh, nudging her gently. ]

You're gonna break my heart.

[She huffs.]

Don't be such a baby.

[Though her tone actually softens a little. This is how you friendship, right? Giving the other person a hard time over literally everything.]

Aww, Velvet...

[ He shakes his head, watching her for a moment before he breathes out. ]

Were you looking for them?

[She is a little confused by the question.]

Not really. Sorey asked me to come here.

[And she assumes he'll come meet her.]

[ Oh. ]

Huh. Well, I've been asleep too. I had no idea.

[ Pls don't hurt my son. ]

[Honestly if she was going to hurt him it probably would have happened during the shepherd conversation.]

Does that happen a lot here?

[The going to sleep thing, she means.]

[ He only really pays attention to his friends... Hm... ]

I've never really thought about it.

[Zaveid please. She glances at him.]

[Is she going to regret asking this.]

[Though honestly she's not entirely convinced. She doesn't know him as well as Eizen does, but she wonders how much of his attitude is a show to cover having a lot of feelings.]

[ She'll get to know it's all fake eventually, just like everyone else did. ]

[She scoffs a little.]
