The SS Hotmess has been sans a captain or first mate for a few weeks now, and they've had some fascinating dreams of home. Suffice to say, it's reunion time.

[goddammit Sorey now he has to come out, doesn't he.]

...don't hush me.

[But fine, fine. If Eizen was going to start anything, he would have done it by now, particularly since they're in a more private space than the docking area.

With a quiet sigh and a flash of blue light, he manifests outside of Sorey, nodding to the earth malak.]

Hello again, Eizen.

[ Raised together, were they? It doesn't sound like a thing that could happen in his life time, not to mention dangerous. Sorey is still human after all, and it's their nature that posses the greatest threat to seraph kind.

And yet...

He watches with a raised eyebrow the flash of blue light that heralds Mikleo's appearance, lips curving into a brief chuckle. Of course they don't trust him. ]

Mikleo.

[ Young, Eizen notes, even for one of their kind. Likely the same age as Sorey. ]

You're right to be suspicious of me, no one in their right mind should trust a pirate. [ Or an angry brother. ]

[PING]

Pirate? You're a pirate? [HAVE YOU HAD ADVENTURES]

Wait... you mean like--

[--Aifread.

...Yeah conversations get weird at the mention of Aifread, and he doesn't want to aggravate the situation. He frowns and switches gears.]

A real pirate, on the ocean?

[ Well, that look doesn't seem familiar at all. Not at all similar to the look Eizen sometimes gets when they find a rare artifact or treasure, not at all. ]

Aye, a real pirate on the ocean. [ Where else who he be? Honestly. ] I was First Mate to Van Aifread's pirates before coming here.

[ See, it's totally fine to talk about Aifread. ]

Aifread?! Oh my gosh-! I- [JUMPS UP AND RUNS OVER TO BOOKSHELF, grabs his copy of the Celestial Record and paws through the few books they have from home] Mikleo, where's those notes from home you were taking?! Aifread!

[Oh thank goodness, that settles that problem right off the bat. Mikleo's expression is as much relief as excitement; Zaveid had sounded so sad that he hadn't wanted to ask much about Aifread, but Eizen appears more proud than anything else.

He calls up the book he always has with him, sifting through the pages.]

I've got it here. There was a book in the Pendrago Cathedral shelves dedicated to Aifread's Hunting Grounds that I found one night while you and Rose were asleep- I got most of my notes from that.

[ You know what he didn't really expect? This, right here. The Shepherd suddenly turning into the equivalent of a human sized excited puppy at the mention of the most feared pirate in all the oceans. He's a little stunned for a moment, mouth parted in a silent laugh as he blinks a few times. ]

Did you say Aifread's Hunting Grounds? He got something named after him?

[Flashes Eizen a grin before leaning over Mikleo's shoulder to read.] Yeah; these huge cliffs overlooking the ocean, right near the Earthen Shrine. When we first learned the name we didn't know anything about Aifread.

Right... we did hear a few stories as we traveled, so I made sure to take notes, but nothing in great detail- most of it was hyperbole, legends and such. Let's see-

[He flips a page bearing rough sketches of some of the landmarks to find the recorded text.]

"Aifread sailed the seas unceasing for generations, guided the wind itself." Or, "The dreaded warrior bred monsters below deck and unleashed them upon any who resisted plunder; to this day they haunt the fields mapped and chartered by his own hand." Or, "Death itself flew in the flag of the Van Eltia, pledged to serve Aifread so long as he drew breath."

[ It is the second thing that has Eizen laughing, unable to hide his amusement. He has to wonder what Aifread would think about the tales weaved about him, if he would laugh and embrace them as though they were truth. ]

Ay, the crew were a tough bunch but they were not monsters. [ Pride fills his voice, his face. ] I can tell you how many of those are true, like the that one about Death sailing with him. That one is mostly true, but it was the Reaper that he counted among his crew.

That's so cool. [Hey Eizen are you prepared to be hero-worshiped by a teenage Shepherd??? Well GET PREPARED because it's happening] There are so few legends that've survived that long! He must've been an incredible person!

That's what I've heard as well, yeah.

[Zaveid was certainly singing his praises, albeit more sadly. He made it sound like the guy was a very impressive human in his time.]

If you have any stories you're willing to share, we'd love to hear them.

[ He's feeling something akin to whiplash right now, but he is taking it in stride. ]

He was. [ There is a sadness there, of course, but his voice has more cheer in it than Zaveid's would have. ] Instead of being afraid of the Reaper haunting his ship he gave me a place amongst his crew.

Aye, I have stories I can share. We sailed to the far reaches of the world more than once.

Do you mind? -oh, hang on, Mikleo here's your pencil, [Grabs the bf's writing utensils from the desk, because although Sorey can memorize whay Eizen says, Mikleo prefers to take notes.

He even pulls out the chair for Eizen! So polite.] Would you like to sit?

Ah, thanks.

[what a good. Mikleo smoothes out the fabric on the bed and plops right down, notebook and pen at the ready, like a journalist awaiting the next headline.]

[ Eizen can't help but laugh, shaking his head at them both. ]

Now? [ Well, looks like he might be stuck here for a while. ] Alright then, thanks.

[ With a nod he takes the offered chair, quick to lean back against it almost lazily. ]

Was there anything in particular you wanted to hear about?

What's the circumference of the world? [HE'S WANTED TO KNOW SINCE HE WAS FIVE]

[WHAT] At least ask him something interesting, first!

Shut up, that's interesting! I wanna know how big it is!

It may be scholarly, but a part of the wonder of legend is chipped away once you start nitpicking the details! Don't you want to hear it in broad scope first!?

Oh you're one to call me a nitpicker, Mister "I Have To Meticulously Piece Together The Entire Rolance Royal Family Tree From Miscellaneous Documents"! At least my nitpicking has functional purpose!

How is knowing the political situation of a country we were more or less invading not functional!? You even thanked me for keeping us all informed!

[ . . .

For the most part Eizen just sits there and watches them squabble, before he just laughs. ]

[Glances over at Eizen like he's forgotten he was there before scratching the back of his neck sheepishly, blushing.] Okay, okay, fine... You go first then.
