The SS Hotmess has been sans a captain or first mate for a few weeks now, and they've had some fascinating dreams of home. Suffice to say, it's reunion time.

[Oh boy, Velvet looks troubled. Sorey holds out a hand again, concerned.] Velvet? What's wrong, is there something you want to tell us?

[No, they can't just talk about how many therions are around and then drop it!

She shakes her head.]

Therions are specifically tied to Innominat. We're used to fully awaken him.

Th- [whaT DOES THAT MEAN]

Okay. Okay, let's back up- I don't think we're talking about the same thing. Lailah would've mentioned something to us about therians if they were that important, or Zaveid would have if she couldn't.

There are only a few. We were each created by the abbey to feed Innominat malevolence.

[...Velvet, you weren't kidding when you called Artorius a horrible person.

And Innominat- any way you look at it, something that eats malevolence can't be a seraph.]

The abbey...created you?

Because they needed to. Everything for the greater good.

[She sounds bitter because she is.]

Therions are tools. The mouths of Innominat. He needs specific types of malevolence to fully awaken. Not many people can become a therion, so when the abbey found someone or something receptive, they would use them.

[She sighs. How does one even begin to explain this, honestly. The entire thing was such a mess and Velvet herself probably didn't understand it all perfectly. She's not a scholar.]

The abbey doesn't--didn't--want to fight hellions indefinitely. They wanted to stop them from being created. Innominat absorbs malevolence and in turn suppresses human emotion.

Which means hellions- daemons aren't created. [It's along the same vein as Asura; no humans means no malevolence. Even Sorey had occasionally wondered why humans existed if their very nature was poisonous. But to go that far...] They hurt so many people, destroyed so many lives...how can they justify that as for the greater good?

[Yes, good, thank you Mikleo, for saving her from going on another bitter tangent about the abbey. What he says is absolutely true.]

Yeah. They have to believe they're justified or they would turn into daemons themselves.

[Mikleo's not wrong about them having seen it themselves, but it never made sense to Sorey then, either. How someone could look into the faces of the people they were hurting and deem it as necessary is simply beyond his capabilities to understand. Even when he became a hellion, it was more because he couldn't do enough rather than what he'd already done.]

Velvet...it might not mean anything considering our circumstances are so different, but as Shepherd, I want to promise you I'll do everything I can to make sure these things never happen again.

[To be fair, promising to do what you can isn't exactly the same as promising to succeed. Zaveid said Sorey was doing his best and she can appreciate that, at least.]

Apparently it hasn't so far. I guess that's a good sign.
